SEOS - Assa Abloy Creates The Future Standard In Keyless Access Control
Assa Abloy announce the imminent release of SEOS, a wide platform system standard that will work especially with NFC (near field communications) technology to further provide the necessary embedded components in locks and access control devices and allow contactless, keyless controlled access to entries and other portals.
Assa-Abloy are well known worldwide, as the largest manufacturer of door locks and associated door hardware. They collectively own more individual companies under their banner than any competing group or company.
Foe a great many years now, the mobile phone has become the ubiquitous form of communications technology that powers peoples lives. With the current era of the smartphone, thanks to forward thinking technology companies like Apple and Google, many people enjoy the ability to be connected at all times.
The two products that virtually all people carry today are their mobile phone and their keys.
I have been in the locksmith business for about 30 years and have been lucky enough to have plied the trade on four continents worldwide. I have worked on many and varied types of lock and access control mechanisms with my primary focus on providing restricted access control through the use of patented restricted mechanical key control products.
In the last couple of years, products like CLIQ™ and MiFare™, which combine electronic access control with physical mechanical keyway designs, like Medeco, Mul-T-Lock and our signature product Bilock™, as well as other electronic keys including CyberLock™ have emerged to see the blurring of the lines between electronic and physical mechanical key systems.
The inclusion of NFC in mobile phone technology is seen as the greatest technology advancement in modern access control.
It is my personal belief that mechanical key control should continue to be included in new products that sport the new technologies designed to make our lives better, because the mechanical key can and will be used as the emergency overide, especially when batteries fail or mains power is interrupted.
Many people have used swipe cards or fob/tokens, as their "key" for so long now, the natural switch to using their mobile phone instead will be a painless and long term cost reducing factor that will forever change the way we enter and exit.
Be sure to recognize the use of NFC controlled access solutions as we rapidly progress in to the new decade.
