Reassembly And Installing Serrature Meroni Combina Entrance Set

Today I installed 2 new Serrature Meroni Combina Entrance Sets. I tried to record the reassembly and installation using my Android phone.

The Serrature Meroni Combina entrance set is a beautiful and functional product that is precision built to tight tolerances, ensuring top quality and long lasting functionality.

This particular customer was looking to replace their existing Kwikset Titan lever handle entrance sets, because they are about to get new blinds for the windows in the door frame and required a smaller footprint so that the new blinds wont hit the levers. They were very keen to match their color choice and make it simple to operate.

Important to note here is the ability to key alike to existing Kwikset profile keyways many Serrature Meroni products, although the space and depths on Meroni profiles are different to Kwikset, Schlage and many of the mainstream brands found in the USA. For this reason I suggest that locksmiths use the LAB .003" pinning kit. The kit offers multiple different sized pins that are color coded. There are usually charts included inside the lid, explaining the common depths for some of the mainstream brands in the USA.

As in most locksmith tasks, it is very important that one is methodical in their approach to disassembling and reassembling any intricate product. Assembling something inaccurately will often void any perceived manufacturers warranty, let alone disrupt the continued correct operation of the product.

The intelligence and simplicity in the design of the Serrature Meroni Combina handle sets, continues the tradition of fine Italian craftsmanship so often seen and heard of with luxury furniture, boats, cars and of course artworks.

Perhaps it is a testament to my apprenticeship training that I still apply similar techniques in methodology for pulling something apart and putting it back together correctly.

The bible (cylinder housing) of the Meroni cylinder is fundamentally different to any cylinder found in mainstream products seen here in the USA. The bible sits inside a steel cage inside the handle body. The connecting rod (tail piece) floats at the rear of the cylinder and is long enough to reach the locking button on the inside handle.

The Meroni mechanism is a unique piece of engineering purposely designed to minimize potential wear and tear on the latch mechanism. The handles use a scissor like mechanism fitted to each handle that sit inside the latch mechanism and allows the easy use of the latch without the wrenching/turning effect of most other products. This "push to open" method is especially appropriate for sufferers of arthritis or age related and  mobility impaired users. Hence why the Serrature Meroni product line actually exceeds all ADA and life safety codes.

All too often I see and hear about people who have difficulty turning a handle or lever and I also hear and find many instances of worn or broken spring mechanisms requiring a replacement latch or handle return spring. In many cases, the product the customer bought many years ago has been superseded and replacement parts are no longer made. You have to be lucky to find an old time locksmith who may have the replacement part you seek. Also many products in the same family (same brand) use completely different mechanisms that cannot be used with anything other than their own hardware.

Serrature Meroni manufacture their unique styles of handle sets using largely identical mechanisms. This reduces the cost for production, increases the crossover ability of hardware and consequently keeps retail prices down at competitive levels.

But most importantly, the products last for very many years and can withstand even heavy abuse.

We are the exclusive USA distributors of all Serrature Meroni hardware products.
