Enhancing Commercial Security in St Louis and Beyond

Enhancing Commercial Security in St. Louis: High-Security Locks, Access Control, Safes & CCTV

Securing a commercial property or business in St. Louis requires a multi-layered security strategy. Physical entry control, physical storage protection, and continuous visual monitoring work together to create a robust defense against unauthorized access and security breaches.

1. High-Security Locks and Key Control Systems

Standard locks can be vulnerable to picking, bumping, and unauthorized key duplication. High-security locking systems, such as patent-protected key control and interchangeable quick-change cores, ensure that key duplication is strictly restricted. Implementing high-security deadbolts and commercial mortise locks prevents forced entry and provides detailed audit trails for physical access control.

2. Advanced Commercial Access Control Systems

Modern access control systems replace traditional keys with electronic credentials, keypads, biometrics, or mobile access protocols. These systems allow property managers to manage access permissions dynamically, revoke access instantly when necessary, and maintain real-time logs of entry across all exterior and interior entry points.

3. Heavy-Duty Commercial Safes

Protecting physical assets, critical documents, and sensitive data against theft and fire requires rated commercial safes. Burglary-resistant and fire-rated security safes offer an essential layer of physical storage security within commercial facilities, financial institutions, and retail environments.

4. Integrated CCTV Video Surveillance

CCTV surveillance systems provide continuous visual deterrence and event monitoring. High-definition security cameras paired with cloud storage or network video recorders (NVRs) allow security personnel to review footage, monitor key entry points in real time, and integrate surveillance alerts directly into access control units.

The 5th most hit on post in this website is “How much does it cost to change locks?”

My business is almost 20 years old and the market, economy and industry, locally, nationally and internationally has seen significant price fluctuations in this short time,

To help you make heads or tails of the average costs for changing locks by using professional locksmiths, please see the following AI generated article to help guide you.

You are welcome to check out our previous articles in the menu to the right and below…

Thank you

Danny

The cost of changing locks can vary significantly depending on several factors. Here's a breakdown of the potential costs involved:

1. Locksmith Fees:

Hourly Rate: Locksmiths typically charge an hourly rate for their services, which can range from $50 to $100 per hour.

Service Fee: Some locksmiths may charge a flat service fee in addition to their hourly rate. This fee can cover the cost of travel and other expenses.

Emergency Fees: If you need a locksmith to change your locks outside of normal business hours or in an emergency situation, you can expect to pay higher rates. Emergency fees can range from $75 to $125 per hour, and there may be an additional trip charge of $100 to $150.

2. Lock Costs:

Type of Lock: The cost of the lock itself will depend on the type and brand. Basic doorknob locks can cost as little as $20, while high-security or smart locks can cost several hundred dollars.

Number of Locks: The total cost will also depend on the number of locks you need to change.

3. Additional Factors:

Door Type: The type of door you have can also affect the cost of changing locks. Some doors may require more specialized tools or techniques, which can increase the labor cost.

Complexity of Installation: If the installation is more complex, such as if you need to change the strike plate or reinforce the door frame, the cost will be higher.

Overall, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $500 or more to change your locks, depending on the factors mentioned above.

Here are some tips to help you save money on changing your locks:

Get quotes from multiple locksmiths: Compare prices from several locksmiths in your area to find the best deal.

Consider changing the locks yourself: If you are comfortable with basic DIY projects, you may be able to save money by changing the locks yourself. However, it is important to make sure you have the necessary tools and knowledge to do the job properly.

Choose basic locks: If you are on a budget, you can save money by choosing basic doorknob locks instead of high-security or smart locks.

Change locks during normal business hours: You can avoid paying emergency fees by scheduling the work during normal business hours.

What Is Your Preferred Door Hardware Color Finish?

What Is Your Preferred Door Hardware Finish?

What is your preferred door hardware color finish? We have been taking a long look through our invoices over the last 15 years and determined the most popular and preferred color finish selections from our vast list of clients.

The stock photo above is an image of a piece of nickel. We include it here because of the sudden rise in the market price of nickel ore, just in the last 2 days. We suspect there are obvious reasons for this sudden spike, given the political and economic upheavals our world is currently experiencing, but this story made me think about the most common request for color finishes of door hardware, knobs, deadbolts, lever entrance sets. thumbpress entrance locksets, hinges, peepholes, door sweeps, blocker plates, wrap-arounds etc, among some of the products we have sold, serviced and installed over the years.

The common finishes in the market in the USA and other countries around the world are pretty much similar even though some places choose varying preferences, which could be regional among other reasons.

I'm sure people across the industry and around the world, decorators, interior and exterior designers, locksmiths, builders, retailers etc would enjoy understanding why some color selections are made over others and if you would like to share your preferred color finish choices in the comments below that'd be great.

According to our deep dive into our books, the preferred door hardware color finishes are topped by the Satin Nickel choice.

Antique Brass comes a distant second followed closely by polished brass, with venetian bronze and florentine bronze bringing up the rear. Black is finding more traction in recent years but is still farther down the list of preferences.

We have been representing a few manufacturers over the last 15 years, including Serrature Meroni products, Assa-Abloy Lockwood, Schlage, Kwikset, Weslock, Hooply, to name a few.

Many contractors and retailers will offer a variety of color options to fit the unique tastes of clients. Simply ask your chosen contractor if your desired door hardware color finish is available.

If you want to know more about door hardware color finishes and styles of door hardware, Contact Us on 314-266-1533 or by email and a customer service person will be glad to help.

A Rough Year...

2021 was a very rough year for us. Just like most others, we suffered measurably with the downturn in business thanks in no small part to the Covid 19 pandemic. Business has not returned to previous levels and the long term prognosis is not good at all. We are thankful to our clients who continue to use our services, especially for door and door hardware repairs. Actual locksmith calls has cratered significantly and we are modifying our products and services offerings as a consequence.

We are still offering some services like:

  • Door Unlocks (if you are locked out)
  • Safe Openings (repairing and opening safes)
  • Lock rekeys (if you have lost a set of keys or are moving into a new place)
  • Door hardware repairs (if your handle or hinges are broken or out of alignment)
  • Key cutting (residential and commercial keys - not car keys)
  • Door closer repairs (if your door isn't closing correctly)
We have moved on from offering some hardware lines due to supply difficulties While we still carry a very small amount of these lines:
  • Meroni
  • Bilock
  • Lockwood
  • Schlage
  • Weslock
  • Kwikset
We are no longer competitive on many of them.

We have adjusted our hours tremendously too, because we have taken on additional employment during these difficult times. We are only available by appointment still and will be available more in evenings and weekends in future.

We are still offering free surveys and estimates. And our advice consulting services remain free too. We continue to refer to specialist colleagues for our customers needs that we cannot fulfill.

If you have need of door repair advice or a consultation, feel free to contact us at your convenience by Calling Us On (314)266-1533  You are also welcome to Email Us on sales@locks210.com

High-Security Locking Products For Cargo And Delivery Vehicles

Stellantis is the new corporate name for the mega-merger between Fiat Chrysler Americas and Peugeot of France. The merger between two of the world's most iconic automobile manufacturing companies, cements a merger deal that has been years in the making.

This merger will re-introduce a number of brands to the automobile market in the USA, including (but not limited to) Citroen, Opel, Fiat, Peugeot, Renault and Ford.

The merger is expected to close very soon during January 2021.

We concern ourselves here specifically with differing offerings of cargo and delivery vehicles.

Our area of concern is in the available security products made by our partner Serrature Meroni, in Italy.

We are (since 2009) the North American Distributors for Serrature Meroni and their wide range of lock products. (we are working together with another distributor in the upper midwest, who specialize in the expert installations of these UFO products)

This article serves as an update to their UFO product offerings, that continue to evolve to meet the demands of cargo and fleet delivery vendors.

We have written about UFO lock systems a number of times throughout the years. Here is a sample of our previous articles that may be of interest

One interesting product from the new range of UFO products is the UFO Temporary. A product similar to  another manufacturer well known in the local market.

The UFO Temporary encourages users to apply this unique product to the rear doors and/or the sliding door without any need to drill into the body of your vehicle. Below are some of the expected model we may see in the USA over the next few years.

Anti-Bacterial Handle Sets And Door Hardware - Not A New Invention

An article I came across today tries to claim that an American scientific team has invented a new anti-bacterial technique that dissipates harmful pathogens on contact of knobs, levers and other metal door hardware.

As usual, American scientists are very late to the party.

The technology has been around for decades already including the products we have been distributing in North America for most of the last decade.

You can read the article for yourself if you like or simply discover yourself that Anti-Bacterial Hardware has been available by Serrature Meroni for a little over 20 years already.

There are other manufacturers too that also developed the technology eons ago, but this obviously wont stop these American scientists from claiming their supremacy.

We have continued to write articles about the many anti-bacterial products that are already in existence for many years now and continue to educate people everywhere about some of these phenomenal products.

As the North American distributor for all things Meroni, we continue to offer these nouveau products to the North American markets and are seeing some slow uptake of some of these products. The non anti-bacterial hardware, we have installed numerous times for public spaces and also private homes too. The novel designs in the Meroni range are favored when used in high-frequency locations and by physically challenged people too. Arthritis sufferers, who have difficulty gripping and turning door knobs or levers, are quite impressed by the ease in operation of Meroni hardware.

Here are a number of articles we have written over the years about the available Meroni hardware options and also some other articles relevant to the subject. See Anti-Bacterial

Coronavirus - What Do You Do?

This is not an advertisement or advertorial. This is vital and important public information that could save your life!

The current seasonal shift is well underway, no matter what part of the planet you live on.

Of course with the northern hemisphere changing over to Spring/Summer, so come the inevitable virus', colds, flu, pneumonia and other potentially life threatening illnesses.

An often over looked issue, that faces all of us regularly is the transference of potentially harmful pathogens that can occur when differing users might touch or operate a door handle, safety bar, handrail etc. Do you REALLY know who touched the item before you? Do you care?

A little over 8 years ago we wrote an article about the recently released (at the time) blockbuster movie, starring Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow. We included the preview in our article too. (See the article we wrote in October 2011, below).

When you go to a hospital or medical clinic, you hope that the managers of such public places care enough about the health and welfare of their consumers to have policies and rules in place to mitigate any harm potentially caused therein, right?

I'm sure you have seen and continue to see many private and public places include a pump bottle of hand sanitizer near a restroom and often signs posted inside a restroom requiring employees to wash hands prior to handling food or after using the facilities. This modern day policy stemmed from the outbreak of the highly contagious H1N1 virus that threatened many thousands of people all across the planet. Luckily the quick action of governments worldwide and especially the CDC in America, stemmed the threat, but not before thousands of people, animals, birds etc, were slaughtered or died.

While the COVID-19 Virus is well hyped in the media right now, it is vital and imperative that everyone be diligent to protect everyone.

It is your responsiblity and mine. My life and your life is at stake.

Here is the article and preview of Contagion....

Contagion

Just last week my wife and I went to see this movie. I found it to be one of the most entertaining suspense filled films I have seen in ages.

It stars Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Lawrence Fishburne and a gaggle of other big name stars.

The storyline involves a woman who returns home to the USA from abroad who has been in contact with someone who passed on a virus to her. Anything or anyone she came into contact with seemed to also contract the contagious virus.

To make a long story short, many millions of people become infected and die before a cure is found.

The realism in this fictional movie was astounding. The film director makes the audience feel that the whole scenario is entirely plausible and probable.

The recent bird flu and H1N1 virus' that the world contracted in the last couple of years, makes this film even more realistic and topical.

Why do I post this review here?

I am the exclusive USA importer/distributor of the sensational Serrature Meroni brand of locks and door and cabinet hardware from Italy. Serrature Meroni, a few years ago introduced a unique line of inventory that includes especially designed anti-bacterial polymer door knobs. These handles minimize the potential impact of transferring disease between people.

Virtually all people touch a door knob to operate a door at home or work or the doctors surgery or a hospital or any other public building, in order to enter or exit a room or the building. All people rarely consider the likelihood of catching and spreading germs from unknowingly touching a surface that a possible infected carrier has also touched.

Remember when those recent well known virus' (Bird Flu and H1N1) were breaking news all over the media? Pharmacists, grocery stores and merchants everywhere suddenly began selling notoriously huge amounts of hand sanitizers and similar products. Many institutions enacted strict policies forcing people to use hand sanitizers as often as possible and some even required employees to wear face masks to minimize the potential spread of airborne diseases.

The realism of the movie Contagion, made me think about how easy it would be to spread disease.

But thanks to forward thinking companies like Serrature Meroni, we can now rest easier with the assurance that forward thinking home owners, hospital management, doctors surgeries, chemical research laboratories and other concerned proactive people, are taking steps to protect their customers, staff, friends and families from the potential deadly side effects of unknown or even known virus'.

The owner spent a longtime with me on the phone helping diagnosis the problem. He was on-time, friendly and helped resolve my issue. I will definitely use him again!

Chris C (Lake St Louis, MO) July 2013

I had a very pleasant experience with Master Key Systems. They came out, did the job (which took longer than expected) and they did not change the price they quoted me. Now, I am not certain that it was a great value for the money because I don't have a comparison, but they did what they said, when they said, for the price they said. Enough said!!!

Antonio B (Saint Louis, Missouri) March 2013

Professional.. Upfront about charges. Fixed the sticky door within 20 minutes. I will recommend Master Key for exterior door issues.
Muthu R (Ballwin, MO) July 2012

Danny was a master craftsman, knowledgable and professional. I will be calling on him again in the future as well as passing on his services to friends and family.

Marsha L (Saint Louis, MO) July 2012

Danny was excellent! I called him on a Monday to fix a sliding glass door. He happened to have the exact part we needed (and it was not an easy find - we had looked everywhere) and he came over Tuesday evening. He stayed until 8:00 until the job was done, and cleaned up afterwards. He was courteous, professional, and efficient! I could not be happier!

Rachel P Maryland Heights, MO (July 2012)

He did an excellent job. Got there on time and quickly solved the issue. Was very pleasant and explained the situation and how to keep the door from sticking in the future. Would definitely use Master Key LLC again!

Neil F. (Saint Louis, MO) April 2012

Danny was very friendly and knowledgeable, although his apprentice seemed to do most of the work, Danny kept an eye on him to make sure it was done right. He had very reasonable pricing for re-keying.
Greg D (St Louis, MO) October 2011

He was extrememly fabulous and helpful and did a wonderful job. He was very professional.
Shannon M. (Arnold, MO) October 2011

Growing up spending so much of my time in Italy, the uniqueness of the Nova Classico left quite an impression on me. To be able to have and enjoy them in my own home here in the states is a nostalgic indulgence I'm enjoying beyond words. Thank you Danny for coordinating this transaction.

Joseph M (Chicago, IL) September 2011

great job. hired on the spot and he did job right then at great price

Ron B (Arnold, MO) July 2011

I searched the internet and found your services. I received three phone calls within several days. A service call was scheduled. Two gentlemen arrived promptly, analyzed the problem and fixed it.
James & Florenc M Saint Louis, MO July 2011

The repairman was on time and did an excellent job of fixing a very stubborn door lock. He was persistent and cleaned up the work area afterwards. I would use this service again.

Brenda F (Saint Peters, MO) June 2011

Danny at Master Key Systems has succeeded in making the purchasing of our Meroni door locks, from Italy, an absolute breeze. Even though I live in Australia with a 16hr time difference and was ordering door knobs from Italy that weren't in stock, the whole process was faultless. Danny was prompt and efficient with all his emails and made sure we had covered every possible variable so that the product I received was exactly as required. I would have no hesitation in recommending Danny for your next purchase.
Patrick Carr (Canberra, Australia)

Your product really helped because I needed to secure a nurse's station adjacent to a waiting room and needed a pocket door. Unfortunately, no real options were available to lock a pocket door effectively that would keep me compliant with HIPAA and secure an area that stores medical supplies. This was vitally important as this particular waiting room was for "waiting detox patients". Thank you very much.
Randall R The Fritz Clinic (Birmingham, Al) March 2011

Danny was very polite and knew what the problem was and how to fix it. He also gave me some information about other issues that could arise with my door and locks. Will hire again if I ever need that type of work done.
Jason M Imperial, MO March 2011

I had an exterior basement door that dragged when opening and closing. The hinges were not fitting properly and the door frame had shifted, probably due to the age of the house. The screwswould not go far enough into the wall without hitting stone...even using a special drill bit. Dan worked a long time drilling and sanding to shore up the door as best as possible. I know it will never be perfect. He could have easily sold me a new door and the same issue would happen. He was honest, thorough, and did an excellent job without charging me a fortune. I'm satisfied with the door now. If you want an honest, experienced man, Then Dan is the man

Roger M Saint Louis, MO March 2011

I purchased the Cowdroy P697 Pocket door lock with key over the internet. I emailed questions before my purchase and was provided with the answers quickly by return email. The purchase was quick and easy and the lock was shipped immediatly. Installation is quick and easy. But you do need to convert millimeters to inches (use the internet) in the installation instructions. And the lock looks great and works great. I will do business with them again. THANK YOU
