Meroni Nova Locks Used to Replace Peachtree Multi-Point Patio Door Mechanism

On last Monday, we installed new Meroni Nova locks for a customer who was unable to replace his Peachtree Multi-Point lock system on his patio doors.

The installation process took about 5 hours to complete and involved removing the old Peachtree mechanism that was built into the body of the door.

We supplied Rockwell push plates to cover the large holes left by the old mechanism and installed the new locks to the plates.

The first picture is the completed look.
To enhance the ambience of the install, we installed a dummy set to the fixed leaf and used the customer sourced strike plates to improve the look.

This second picture shows the dummy installed.
The customer was able to source replacement plates for his old Peachtree Lock, which we used to cover the holes left by the old mechanism. We installed the Meroni Nova within the replacement faceplate.
The completed look from inside shows the Rockwell push plates covering the old holes, with the Meroni locks fitted symmetrical.
The locking knob installed to the operating leaf.
Installing the Meroni mechanism on the operating leaf. All care is taken to ensure precision installation. proper installation is vital to enhancing the required ambience of the fitting.
Finishing work is important. You can see the size of the holes we were required to cover on the fixed leaf (under the drill).

The final result, enabled a simple to operate lock mechanism that suits the color scheme of the interior design of the room.

This is the second Peachtree Multi-Point lock system we have replaced with the fabulous Meroni Nova hardware.

Meroni Nova Entry Set Replaces Broken Peachtree Citadel Multi-Point Entry System

We were recently called to one of our returning customers to provide a solution to secure their patio entrance door.
They had been using a Peachtree Citadel Multi-Point entry system on this door for many years, however the product had not worked for about the last 7 years, easily.

These doors and all the windows around the room used surface mounted, raised Venetian blinds that caused them to have to reverse the lever handle on the inside of the door, to be able to use the door. This was rather unsightly and as their children grew, became a handling issue that eventually caused the lock mechanism to break.
Having performed our services for them in the past, they called me to see if i could fix their latest issue where the lock had completely stopped operating from the outside too.

On my initial attendance, in which we always offer a free estimate, we determined that the entire unit be replaced. Unfortunately Peachtree Citadel Multi-Point locks of the particular vintage are no longer made. We were able to source a supplier who could provide us with a new lock, but the entire mechanism requires to be removed to be able to fix it.

We offered a solution that would work far better and they would regain use of the inside of the door with a normal type handle that would work easily with the raised Venetian Blinds already fitted to their door.

We were still required to remove the old Peachtree Mechanism, not a simple task and could then install a Meroni Nova N13 Entry set to their door. We removed the faceplate from the Peachtree lock, intending to reuse it and used large push plates in polished brass on both inside and outside to cover the old holes left by the old hardware. The Meroni Nova lock uses a push button to pull the latch back, so there is no knob to turn or lever to pull. This action means that they can operate and lock the door easily while maintaining aesthetics.

The pictures above are deliberately large to allow you to click on them for a close up view.

It took about 4 hours to complete the project, but the customer is ever so satisfied and we workers are pleased with our efforts too.

5 reasons to stop using antibacterial soap

The FDA, recently announced the culmination of a 42 year study into the health benefits of the use of anti-bacterial handsoap.

To summarize. the FDA discovered that after a decades long investigation, the benefits derived from this multi-billion dollar industry, do not significantly add value to our lives, more than normal soap and water.

I meet people regularly who swear by their practise of using some alcohol based antibacterial soaps, hoping to minimize their own exposure to the easy transference of bacteria and virus'.

With this 42 year study finally releasing their results, concerned users are realizing that common used door knobs, that multiple people touch daily have been a harbinger of diseases that are too easily transferred.

That is of course until they learn about the Serrature Meroni range of Combina and Pigio range of push/pull entry levers and knobs, that are specifically designed with anti-microbial surfaces that minimize the spread of colds and flu.

We are the North American distributors of the fabulous Nouveau and Ultra-Modern door entry products made by the highly respected European (Italian) manufacturer Serrature Meroni.

We maintain a relatively large inventory, in multiple color options of Nova, Forma, Combina and Pigio (1, 2 & 3) door hardware.

We will showcase some special quantities of Meroni Nova, passage, privacy and entry handlesets, in large quantaties and diverse color options.

The five reasons are...

1. Antibacterial soaps are no more effective than conventional soap and waterAs mentioned in the announcement, 42 years of FDA research—along with countless independent studies—have produced no evidence that triclosan provides any health benefits as compared to old-fashioned soap.
“I suspect there are a lot of consumers who assume that by using an antibacterial soap product, they are protecting themselves from illness, protecting their families,” Sandra Kweder, deputy director of the FDA’s drug center, told the AP. “But we don’t have any evidence that that is really the case over simple soap and water.”
Manufacturers say they do have evidence of triclosan’s superior efficacy, but the disagreement stems from the use of different sorts of testing methods. Tests that strictly measure the number of bacteria on a person’s hands after use do show that soaps with triclosan kill slightly more bacteria than conventional ones.
But the FDA wants data that show that this translates into an actual clinical benefit, such as reduced infection rates. So far, analyses of the health benefits don’t show any evidence that triclosan can reduce the transmission of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections. This might be due to the fact that antibacterial soaps specifically target bacteria, but not the viruses that cause the majority of seasonal colds and flus.
2. Antibacterial soaps have the potential to create antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The reason that the FDA is making manufacturers prove these products’ efficacy is because of a range of possible health risks associated with triclosan, and bacterial resistance is first on the list.
Heavy use of antibiotics can cause resistance, which results from a small subset of a bacteria population with a random mutation that allows it to survive exposure to the chemical. If that chemical is used frequently enough, it’ll kill other bacteria, but allow this resistant subset to proliferate. If this happens on a broad enough scale, it can essentially render that chemical useless against the strain of bacteria.
This is currently a huge problem in medicine—the World Health Organization calls it a “threat to global health security.” Some bacteria species (most notably, MRSA) have even acquired resistance to several different drugs, complicating efforts to control and treat infections as they spread. Health officials say that further research is needed before we can say that triclosan is fueling resistance, but several studies have hinted at the possibility.
3. The soaps could act as endocrine disruptors.  A number of studies have found that, in rats, frogs and other animals, triclosan appears to interfere with the body’s regulation of thyroid hormone, perhaps because it chemically resembles the hormone closely enough that it can bind to its receptor sites. If this is the case in humans, too, there are worries that it could lead to problems such as infertility, artificially-advanced early puberty, obesity and cancer.
These same effects haven’t yet been found in humans, but the FDA calls the animal studies “a concern”—and notes that, given the minimal benefits of long-term triclosan use, it’s likely not worth the risk.

Meroni - The Answer To Cost Effective ADA Compliant Hardware

$ for $ comparison pitted the Meroni hardware at about half the cost of the other more widely recognized brand names. (Including installation costs)

watch the two videos to see how it is installed.

The first video above, shows the handle set just after it was initially installed before the final inside cover was installed.

We used Don-Jo scar plates to cover the 2-1/8" crossbore holes allowing the Combina hardware to easily and securely fit.
The Meroni hardware uses a footprint of about 1-3/4" (40mm) crossbore's, so the scar plate is necessary to save from using a wrap around or having to replace the door or fill the hole and re-drill.

Auto-Magnetic Latching - New Technology By Serrature Meroni

Serrature Meroni products proudly introduce a completely new design of door latching product that is sure to change the door hardware and door lock industry.

The new technology allows for a conventional door lock to have an almost silent operating door latch with no visible  lipped strike plate.

This improves the look of the fitting and increases the security as well, by having no bevelled latches, thereby preventing the loiding trick (using a card or screwdriver to push the latch back) on conventional latching door locks.

The video after the jump is in Italian and shows the new latching technology being used in the Proxima product (3:26). You can also see the latch being used with the fabulous Combina and Nova handles (1:11).

A New Era - Think New!

Think New! This is my vision for where I want to take this business. I want to alter the fabric of my involvement in the locksmith business and adopt the CANEI Principle. Companies like Keyline above, are pushing the edge of locksmith machinery. I am familiar with their products from time spent abroad. I have always known them to be reliable and cost effective.

We hope to transform our business over the next few years and modernize our machinery and other equipment. We believe the investment in new technologies, both for our business and our customers will be of great benefit to us both.

We will soon travel abroad to visit with suppliers in Italy.

Next year we plan to open our first retail location. We intend to modernize the lock, key and handle industry.
We already offer exclusive products like the Crescent Pocket Door Lock by Cowdroy, the Lockwood 7444 Keyed Pocket Door Lock and the Rosslinear Battery Powered Electric Strike. Our range of Meroni Hardware is constantly growing. We will soon begin stocking Meroni Combina and Meroni Nova Classico handles in a wide variety of colors. We will offer Meroni Pigio handlesets too. The extensive and impressive range of hardware is ultra modern in appearance and function.

We are constantly on the lookout for more products and stories about the world of locks, keys, safes and related security products and services and we will be writing more articles on this subject. We look forward to you joining us.

Designed to work with the unique range of Serrature Meroni Push Button Handle Systems, this innovation will work easily with Nova Classico, Forma and Combina knobs, to provide an ergonomic, modern and stylish entry system that maximizes potential access control and electronic master-keying capabilities and combines this with handles that are especially easy to operate, suiting hotels, motels, hospitals, aged care centers etc.

Simple Fix Prevents Easy Lever Lock Bypass

The above video shows a well known locksmith tool being used to circumvent the security of just about any lever handle lock.

They also show a simple and effective method of prevention to this bypass method.

Now, most homes employ both a handle and a deadbolt to ensure an entry door is secured but the quantity of online videos explaining how to pick locks and the availability of lock picking tools online can make the job of providing security more difficult to those whose job it is to be concerned.

Luckily for some, there are products available that can mitigate the ease in bypassing these and similar types of locks.

Our very impressive range of Serrature Meroni products are designed differently to mainstream knobs and levers. Meroni make push/pull levers and press button knobs that never require a handle or lever to be twisted/turned.

The Meroni Pigio range are a very unique, high quality designed lever type entry handle that would make the above entry method more difficult to achieve.

The Meroni Combina range are a beautiful version of the entry knob that exceed ADA laws and are very easy to install and use.

The Meroni Nova range are the company's original product offering and are widely used across Europe and are starting to be found in the USA and Australia/New Zealand.

The Meroni Forma range are also very stylishly designed, being oval shaped knobs. Again, they use push buttons to activate the mechanism, meaning no twisting or turning of the knob ever occurs.

By having no twisting or turning of the handle/lever, less wear occurs on the mechanisms. Less wear means longer lasting products. Longer lasting products means value for money.

We plan to show more on these fabulous Meroni lock ranges in upcoming articles.

Furniture Locks By Meroni

It is no secret that we have become the source in the USA for Meroni locking system products. We have been extolling the virtues of some of the unique range of Meroni handle designs like the Combina and Pigio and Nova handles.

But do you know how Meroni first developed their market?

A little over 60 years ago, Meroni began developing it's range of products in the Brianza area of Northern Italy, widely known as the epicentre of the Italian furniture industry. Meroni capitalised on their early entry to market by developing long term relationships with many of the leading Italian furniture manufacturers. Italian produced furniture products are known internationally for their quality of workmanship and leading style designs. Adopting Meroni products became an excellent fit for many of these companies and the relationship continues today.

In fact, many of the furniture locks you see by other manufacturers worldwide are based on the original designs that Meroni produced over the last 60 years.

It is no wonder that Meroni continues to be the undisputed leader in it's field with most of the leading furniture companies still preferring Meroni locks for use in their pieces.

We recently provided a range of master keyed cam locks to a discerning buyer for use on an oil platform, that required to be made to very exacting keying specifications. Sure there were many choices on offer for this company, some that were even considerably cheaper. But with the depth of Meroni's expertise and reputation for quality, we were able to provide the perfect solution in the required urgent timeframe. Another satisfied client.

The Meroni catalogue today lists over 7000 items designed for the furniture sector. The enormous choice allows for furniture producers to find ready-made solutions for virtually every need, in a product range that offers a vast spectrum of sizes, materials and finishes.

Some of the Meroni solutions include:

  • Cupboard and Wardrobe Doors
  • Sliding Doors
  • Bureau Doors
  • Filing Cabinets
  • Drawers
  • Tall Boys
  • Dressers
  • Basquill locks etc.

Serrature Meroni's long experience in producing furniture locks and its close
cooperation with the marketing and design departments of its customers in the furniture sector have enabled them to develop a exceptional capabilities in the analysis and resolution of every kind of design problem. Being able to grasp design requirements immediately, propose solutions and introduce rapid adaptations are key competencies of the Meroni design office.

For this reason, in those cases in which the extensive choice of existing products is not able to meet particular needs, Serrature Meroni's technical centre is always available to create a tailor-made solution. This flexibility is one of the company's strengths and a source of competitive edge for those companies that approach Meroni looking for a creative work relationship and a complete range of design and marketing services.

Danny was very friendly and knowledgeable, although his apprentice seemed to do most of the work, Danny kept an eye on him to make sure it was done right. He had very reasonable pricing for re-keying.

He was extrememly fabulous and helpful and did a wonderful job. He was very professional.
Shannon M. (Arnold, MO) October 2011

Growing up spending so much of my time in Italy, the uniqueness of the Nova Classico left quite an impression on me. To be able to have and enjoy them in my own home here in the states is a nostalgic indulgence I'm enjoying beyond words. Thank you Danny for coordinating this transaction.

Joseph M (Chicago, IL) September 2011

Ron B (Arnold, MO) July 2011

I searched the internet and found your services. I received three phone calls within several days. A service call was scheduled. Two gentlemen arrived promptly, analyzed the problem and fixed it.
James & Florenc M Saint Louis, MO July 2011

The repairman was on time and did an excellent job of fixing a very stubborn door lock. He was persistent and cleaned up the work area afterwards. I would use this service again.

Brenda F (Saint Peters, MO) June 2011

Danny at Master Key Systems has succeeded in making the purchasing of our Meroni door locks, from Italy, an absolute breeze. Even though I live in Australia with a 16hr time difference and was ordering door knobs from Italy that weren't in stock, the whole process was faultless. Danny was prompt and efficient with all his emails and made sure we had covered every possible variable so that the product I received was exactly as required. I would have no hesitation in recommending Danny for your next purchase.
Patrick Carr (Canberra, Australia)

Your product really helped because I needed to secure a nurse's station adjacent to a waiting room and needed a pocket door. Unfortunately, no real options were available to lock a pocket door effectively that would keep me compliant with HIPAA and secure an area that stores medical supplies. This was vitally important as this particular waiting room was for "waiting detox patients". Thank you very much.
Randall R The Fritz Clinic (Birmingham, Al) March 2011

Danny was very polite and knew what the problem was and how to fix it. He also gave me some information about other issues that could arise with my door and locks. Will hire again if I ever need that type of work done.
Jason M Imperial, MO March 2011

I had an exterior basement door that dragged when opening and closing. The hinges were not fitting properly and the door frame had shifted, probably due to the age of the house. The screwswould not go far enough into the wall without hitting stone...even using a special drill bit. Dan worked a long time drilling and sanding to shore up the door as best as possible. I know it will never be perfect. He could have easily sold me a new door and the same issue would happen. He was honest, thorough, and did an excellent job without charging me a fortune. I'm satisfied with the door now. If you want an honest, experienced man, Then Dan is the man

Roger M Saint Louis, MO March 2011

I purchased the Cowdroy P697 Pocket door lock with key over the internet. I emailed questions before my purchase and was provided with the answers quickly by return email. The purchase was quick and easy and the lock was shipped immediatly. Installation is quick and easy. But you do need to convert millimeters to inches (use the internet) in the installation instructions. And the lock looks great and works great. I will do business with them again. THANK YOU

Ed D (February, 2011)

We were very please. Didn't take that long and was glad to have this task checked off as done. Danny was great! Professional and knew just what to do

Danny was pleasure to meet and was very knowledgable. He explained several lock replacement options but I decided none of them were a good fit for a storm door, however, I did replace a lock on my entry door with a type of lock I had never seen before. I would highly recommend this company.

Hired Danny to re-key locks on "new" house purchase. He advised to replace with new deadbolts & door knobs on 3 entry doors instead which I agreed with. All doors have 1 matching key & the safety of excellent quality product & workmanship. He also added new strike plate to door frame to complete project.. I had a very pleasant experience with Master Key Systems. They came out, did the job (which took longer than expected) and they did not change the price they quoted me. Now, I am not certain that it was a great value for the money because I don't have a comparison, but they did what they said, when they said, for the price they said. Enough said!!!
