Medeco M3 locks bumped and picked

For quite some time now, I have been extolling the virtues of the Bilock lock system and continually explaining to all, the misleading statements being bandied about by Medeco and certain locksport groups that the Medeco product was supposedly bump proof.

This week at DefCon 15, evidence was produced exposing Medeco locks are indeed susceptible to bumping and picking.

Here is a video showing a 12 year old girl bumping a Medeco M3 cylinder.

Bioaxxis BD1 - Fingerprint scanner deadbolt.

I have just returned from ALOA, the national conference of the Associated Locksmiths Of America, where I learned about the many innovative products available to the security industry.
One such product is the Bioaxxis BD1 biometric deadbolt lock.

This sensational product is a major improvement in biometric locking systems and surprisingly reasonably priced. It is also aesthetically pleasing.

Perhaps the bigger benefit is the ability to use a conventional rim cylinder as the key overide mechanism. This is particularly useful for locksmiths and access control companies because this negates the need for special additional purchase cylinders.

Features:

  • Five pin tumbler rekeyable KW1 keyway, as compared to most biometric locks with proprietary keyways (Unique Feature)

  • Includes three nickel plated brass keys (Unique Feature)

  • Solid brass cylinder plug (Unique Feature)

  • One inch brass deadbolt with case-hardened steel roller pin to resist sawing, as compared to hollow tin deadbolts for most other biometric locks (Unique Feature)

  • Each lock package includes one 60mm and one 70mm backset, as compared to more damage-prone adjustable backsets (Unique Feature)

  • Certified heavy-duty deadbolt (Unique Feature)

  • High-quality motor is rated for 800,000 operations (Unique Feature)

  • Weatherproof - Fully resistant to rain, snow, temperature extremes, humidity, UV and dust. No other biometric deadbolt can make these claims (Unique Feature)

  • Two Year Warranty - as compared to most locks with a one year warranty (Unique Feature)

  • Deadbolt is mounted internally through the door for better security, as opposed to externally on the door like many other biometric deadbolts

  • Elegant and contemporary appearance

  • Non-Handed - will fit any left or right handed door

  • Additional security added with keyhole cover

  • Up to 30 users (each user can scan fingerprint 2 times for total of 60 fingerprints)

  • Sliding weather cover triggers sensor to power on automatically

  • Sliding weather cover also triggers deadbolt to re-engage (no tricky buttons to push or PIN Codes to recall)

  • Easy to install

  • Easy to program and operate

  • Battery operation with low battery alert - non-volatile memory will not delete stored fingerprints (even if batteries expire)

Locks210.com will be including this product in our inventory in the very near future.

    The Door Signal

This nouveau design Door Signal handle is a revolutionary new concept from Yanko design. The obvious uses of this design would be for the hotel industry, although it could be a revolutionary security device for residential doors especially for close fitting screens.

The pulley mechanism, is designed to retract and extend, providing no way to grip the handle and thereby open the door.

The ingenuity employed here is in thinking outside the box and many European lock designers have been pushing the envelopes of design for many years. The security application of the handle would exceed more common handle types on the market today.

    Strikemaster II

Locks210.com is pleased to make this product now available to residents and businesses in St Louis.

StrikeMaster II offers a unique and innovative solution to prevent burglars from entering your home, StrikeMaster II strikes-back instantly. Its patented strike plates make the door casing virtually unbreakable.

The easiest way for a criminal to get into your house is just too kick-in your door! The FBI says every 12 seconds a home is invaded by going right through the front or back door. Open your front door and look at the dead bolt plate. There is one inch of soft wood protecting the safety of your home - your door casings can not protect you from a thief kicking your door

How much does a StrikeMaster II cost? $109.95 plus shipping/handling and installation.

A former police officer was recently quoted. "
I am a retired Chief of Police with more than 30 years in law enforcement and security and have investigated 1000's of residential burglaries and domestic assaults that were due to the crashing or kicking in of the doors at the home. .... I am proud to announce that I have seen an amazing new product called the StrikeMaster II. This is inexpensive and stronger than any would-be homicidal maniac, I promise... the security market has finally produced a product that is better than locks and alarms. I highly recommend this product on all your outside doors at your home." - Donald Purnell CLL, CFE, Director of Security, Sentry Watch, Inc.

There are numerous testimonials to the quality of this product. One in particular is:
"On the 16th of May, 2005, our home in Chicago was broken into by thieves who shouldered/kicked their way in, through 3 separate doors, one entry and two apartments. A considerable amount of valuables and memorabilia were stolen, including identity theft. Upon observing the 'ease' of entry by these thieves, we set about investigating door protection measures on the internet.
After observing a very graphic video on the 'Safe Home International' site, we ordered the StrikeMaster II for overnight delivery, with the caveat that we would do a 'real-life' test after installation. My installer naturally had his doubts, as I asked him to kick and shoulder the door, after the product was installed. He asked me who would pay for the door frame repair 'in case it didn't work as advertised,'I said I would be responsible, since the safety of our family and property was of utmost concern. I weigh in at 240 lbs and I 'shouldered/kicked' the door three times, without it's failing. My installer, who closely approximates the LARGE individual in the graphic video, had at the door next. He shouldered it twice and kicked it last, his size 11 shoe imprint is still on the back door, although the wall seemed to 'bow in,' the door did not budge. My installer came away convinced, and I came away satisfied, that I made my Family and my Home that much more secure.
The cost/benefit ratio as well is definitely in favor of the StrikeMaster II in comparison with other devices currently on the market. To say that we are more than pleased with the results we obtained from the product, as well as it's support, would be an accurate assessment

Grand Central Joins the Google Family

    Tuesday July 3, 2007.
Google announced today their acquisition of web based telecommunications developer Grand Central.

Grand Central, well known for it's innovative telephone communications portal, a system that allows for one permanent phone number to be associated with you. You now have the ability to hand out one and one only telephone number to everyone. The added benefit of one centrally located voicemail system, that enables recording of conversations, messages etc. And the ability to group your regularly received numbers into classifications, like friends, work, other and set up individual ring tones for each group is certainly novel and very professional.

Perhaps the other single most compelling ability with Grand Central is the ability to send unwanted nuisance callers to your spam box or block their calls altogether.

Gone are the days of your business card listing your office, fax, cell, email, tty, home numbers.
Printing costs will reduce as a result and small businesses will reap the benefits of this sensational technology.

Google, continues it's campaign to increase it's already behemoth status with this very intuitive purchase. The ability to add a standard 10 digit US telephone number to it's resources, will undoubtedly help further develop Google's other products like Google Talk, Gmail, Youtube etc in it's growing social network.

    WARNING

    WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

Unsuspecting consumers need to be wary of unscrupulous locksmiths ripping them off.

For most of the last 12 months, consumers have been ripped off repeatedly by these scam artists.

Notably, these companies usually list multiple telephone numbers with local area codes in the Yellow Pages, but all calls are handled from a national call center in New York.

Originally known as Priceline Locksmiths, having been prosecuted under that name in many states, they changed their name to Dependable Locksmiths.

Most of their employees happen to be foreign or illegal workers, mostly from the Middle East.

ALOA knows about them and has warned the public already. There are multiple news reports all across the country by investigative reporters, confronting them.

Here is a recent report from Missouri that shows they are already here plying their scam to unsuspecting Missourians.

    http://www.nbcactionnews.com/mediacenter/local.aspx?videoId=253230

St Louis is not exempt from them either. I bumped into one of their employees at The Galleria mall just the other day.

    Be Very Careful.

    Voice Activated Safe

I realise this is only a toy, but whilst it is incredibly inexpensive, it is probably a product that some locksmith shops might like to sell as a novelty product for their christmas shopping customers.

Mini safe, which is activated by voice. It's designed to look like a real safe with chunky combination knob and industrial style lever and features a LCD display and a flashing code light. It comes with a preset combination, which you an easily change to your choice of number by turning the knob on the front of the safe.

Better still, set it with your voice: a simple password is spoken into the built-in microphone, and "Open Sesame", you have access to your cash. If you don't get the password or combination right, the safe tells you in four preset phrases to try again, Don't worry about about forgetting your password as it can be easily reset, providing you don't forget the combination.

Once open, the safe reveals a coin tray and a cavity for hiding your stash.

    Voice Activated Safe

Bilock Extreme Security (Bump proof and virtually pick proof)

The key system can be used in almost all existing lock hardware products in the market.

New Generation BiLock offers the security concious an innovative new look, twin bladed key which operates a 12-pin program of tumbler pins, six on either side. These pins, in turn, activate two side-bars to provide the end user with up to 16.7 million possible lock combinations. In addition to a space age moving element within the key an extraordinarily shaped, horizontally postitioned security rod has been built into the cylinder core to activate the 13th locking dimension. Without the moving element, this 13th dimension cannot be activated, this adds yet another feature to BiLock's already exceptional level of security.

    Bumping Mul-T-Lock

This is about 4 months old but the principle is straightforward. It is in Russian and performed in a lock company workshop. Admittedly, the real-world scenario may prove to be somewhat more difficult but it is clear from this piece that most Mul-T-Lock products do not offer the high security that people are paying for.

    Design Your Own T Shirts

This may not be directly related to the security industry, but security companies and locksmiths might be interested in designing their own T shirts with their own logos or designs on them.

As you can see in the picture, this example would cost in excess of $50.00 per shirt with a minimum order quantity of 36, but you can get them as low as $11.95 each, depending on your design.

    Knock-in-key

Designed and made in Germany, one of the standout features of knock-in-key is the fact that it doesn’t stand out at all. It’s compact design means that installation is a breeze and it won’t look out of place in your car.

    · “What a great idea!” is a comment often heard when people hear about knock-in-key, and the best ideas are often the simplest ones, but it took a wealth of technical brilliance and programming genius to bring this `simple idea’ to you.

    · ‘Simple but not simplistic' when it comes to security, Knock-In-Key requires you to pick your own code of 5 to 12 digits and won’t allow simplistic combinations of more than two repeated numbers at a time. It also requires you to input a new code after it has unlocked your doors in case anyone saw you enter.

    · If someone does attempt to gain unauthorised knock-in-key access to your vehicle the unit will automatically become inactive for 1hr after the wrong code has been entered three times. (Just try cracking a five digit code with three attempts every hour, it would be next to impossible, and remember, you can have up to twelve digits in your code making entry even more impossible for a ‘would-be’ thief.)

    · Knock-in-key is like a ‘trusty old friend’; always ready to help you out when you need it most. Even if you forget your code, or just want to check it, you just have to query knock-in-key for it. knock-in-key acknowledges your inputs with a flashing different coloured led. Be it by knocking or inputting code directly into the unit, this device lets you know it’s there and working for you. It even lets you know if you’ve forgotten to set the code.

    · Your knock-in-key comes preset with standard parameters but some may be tailored to suit your individual needs.

    1. There is a choice of four different locking types, for different makes of vehicle.

    2. Blocking time can be shortened from 1hr to 30 minutes.

    3. You can increase the maximum number of wrong attempts at the code from 3 to 5.

    4. If you require a shorter code length it can be shortened from 5 to 4 digits.

    5. You may not want to keep re-inputting your new entry code after each use so it may be set to keep your old code active after every use.

(Note; some of these changes of parameters will directly affect the level of security therefore we advise that due consideration should be made before making such parameter changes).

    · Knock-in-key is so versatile that it has also been successfully wired into electric door locks for buildings, houses and for various other applications.

This new product from UK might have some appeal to home owners the Locca is a novel way to open your door. Similar in design to a garage door opener except that it uses rolling code technology, similar to BMW and Mercedes transponder technologies.

    Bumping in Australia

Australia hasnt escaped the bumping phenomenon either. At least the Australian designed Bilock locking system is available to protect consumers.

Bilock cannot be picked or bumped!

A young man (not a locksmith) created his own picks from simple widely available materials and proceeded to show how quickly and easily he can get in to one of the most common locks on people front or back doors across America.

Maybe people will start to learn why it is becoming necessary to have a Bilock lock on their door.

Bump proof but not pick proof!

Here is an example of a locksmith demonstrating the procedure and tool required to manipulate a Union 5 Lever mortise lock, commonly found in Europe and the UK.

    More Bumping in the News

This spot is from November last year in Cincinnati Ohio. Here, Marc Tobias mentions some common locks in the USA that are supposedly better quality, yet the Primus he mentions has already been bumped open.

There is a lot of commotion being made surrounding the lock bumping phenomenon and there are many videos and news reports around the country and around the world that have become very popular lately.

The Japanese economic ideology known as the Deming Principle, has one fundamental characteristic. CANEI. The CANEI principle is Constant And Never Ending Improvement. This ideology probably explains why the Japanese have proven in the last 50 years to be so dominant in many and varied industries. From automobiles to airplanes to lawnmowers to computer hardware and software to televisions to cameras. The list goes on.

MIWA is a well known Japanese company in the locksmith world that has been producing many quality products for many years. One of their latest designs invoves a disc tumbler system similar to abloy but with a high tech new look and operation.

The following video is narrated in Japanese. We appologise for no English translation, but the principle is clearly shown.

Home Security device - low upkeep.

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shone his flashlight around looking for valuables. When he picked up a CD player to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying, “Jesus is watching you”. He nearly jumped out of his skin…. clicked his flashlight outs and froze. When he heard nothing more, he shook his head and promised himself a vacation after the next big score. He clicked the flashlight back on and continued his search for valuables.
Just as he pulled the stereo out to disconnect the wires, he heard “Jesus is watching” again as clear as a bell. Freaked out, he shone his light frantically around the room. The light rested upon a parrot in a cage. “Did you say that”, he hissed at the parrot? “Yep”, the parrot confessed and then squawked, “I’m just trying to warn you”. Warn me said the burglar! Who the heck are you? “Moses”, said the parrot. “Moses” the burglar laughed. “What kind of stupid person would name a parrot Moses”? “Probably the same person who would name a pit bull Jesus”, the parrot answered.

    Master Key Systems

There are many brands of Master Key systems available today. None quite so innovative as Bilock.
Bilock offers the unique opportunity to easily identify the different keys in any master key system with the use of a novel coloured key head design.

    New Generation BiLock Keyhead
An Australian owned, designed and manufactured, key and keying system. New Generation BiLock is positioned at the cutting edge of high security, keyed locking, system design.

A combination of pure function and form, the New Generation BiLock key head has evolved into a new, fresh, space age look. We like to think it is really ahead of its time! Why? Because it:

    • looks great
    • is quickly and easily identified
    • has extensive colour coded master keying capabilities to ensure optimal security. This is achieved by the use of up to three different colours to be mixed and matched from the 21 available in any keyhead, enabling instant identification of keys within a master key system
    • features braille differentiation. The Australian Lock Company can supply agents with braille number options on one of the key inserts for use by the visually impaired
    • allows a company logo to be embossed into the key head. Even better identification for a system manager!
    • it's still virtually impossible to duplicate! The dual BiLock keyway and strict key control by authorised BiLock agents only remain with New Generation BiLock.

    Our Signature Product

Locks210.com is pleased to introduce our signature product.
The Australian designed Bilock Extreme Security locking system.
Now manufactured under license in the United States, this competitively priced product CANNOT be picked or bumped.
The unique key design is available in your choice of almost 9000 colour combinations.

Danny was very professional and friendly at the same time. He not only gave me the quote and fixed the exterior door and explained his work. He was prompt and upfront about the work and did the work. He came in time took care of it on the same day. (Sasheethn K St Louis MO) June 2018d out problems but assured not urgent. Please feel free to have Danny pass out my number for my total experience review 314-351-5553

Charlie M. (St Louis, MO) November 2015

Danny was pleasure to meet and was very knowledgable. He explained several lock replacement options but I decided none of them were a good fit for a storm door, however, I did replace a lock on my entry door with a type of lock I had never seen before. I would highly recommend this company.
Patricia J (Bridgeton, MO) March 2014
They were prompt and showed up when he said he would show up. He knew his stuff. I had ordered new handles and he was honest enough to say that we don't need them that he can fix the doors and he did. Made me lock and unlock my doors to his satisfaction so that I knew what to do. Am very, very pleased with the service and cost.
Joyce K (Glencoe, MO) May 2015

Showed up on time for appointment. Was very knowledgeable about the project and offered a solution beyond what I asked to be done.
Stephen G (Chesterfield, MO) May 2015

Daniel was right on time, assessed the problems I had with two doors, made the repairs, and explained what caused the problems to begin with .... He is a "door expert" and a true professional. I highly recommend him.

Vince V (St. Louis MO) May, 2015

Danny was fabulous! He went over my concerns and he provided me with more than a fair quote. He was there when he said he was going to be there. I would highly recommend Danny. Cheers!
    Denise S (Imperial, MO) May 8, 2014

Hired Danny to re-key locks on "new" house purchase. He advised to replace with new deadbolts & door knobs on 3 entry doors instead which I agreed with. All doors have 1 matching key & the safety of excellent quality product & workmanship. He also added new strike plate to door frame to complete project.. I recommend as your 1st & only call to a Locksmith.

Denise F (St. Louis, MO) April 3, 2014

Danny was very helpful in solving a pretty complex problem involving many lock.
    Scott C (Eureka, MO) March 27, 2014

Needed patio door track to run smoothly. Arrived early, fixed door and explained what he was doing during repair. Quick and easy. Door works great, my wife will now speak to me, and I've become a better dancer.

    Mike W. (Arnold/Oakville MO) July 2013

The owner spent a longtime with me on the phone helping diagnosis the problem. He was on-time, friendly and helped resolve my issue. I will definitely use him again!

Chris C (Lake St Louis, MO) July 2013

I had a very pleasant experience with Master Key Systems. They came out, did the job (which took longer than expected) and they did not change the price they quoted me. Now, I am not certain that it was a great value for the money because I don't have a comparison, but they did what they said, when they said, for the price they said. Enough said!!!

Antonio B (Saint Louis, Missouri) March 2013

Professional.. Upfront about charges. Fixed the sticky door within 20 minutes. I will recommend Master Key for exterior door issues.
Muthu R (Ballwin, MO) July 2012

Danny was a master craftsman, knowledgable and professional. I will be calling on him again in the future as well as passing on his services to friends and family.

Marsha L (Saint Louis, MO) July 2012

Danny was excellent! I called him on a Monday to fix a sliding glass door. He happened to have the exact part we needed (and it was not an easy find - we had looked everywhere) and he came over Tuesday evening. He stayed until 8:00 until the job was done, and cleaned up afterwards. He was courteous, professional, and efficient! I could not be happier!

Rachel P Maryland Heights, MO (July 2012)

He did an excellent job. Got there on time and quickly solved the issue. Was very pleasant and explained the situation and how to keep the door from sticking in the future. Would definitely use Master Key LLC again!

Neil F. (Saint Louis, MO) April 2012

Danny was very friendly and knowledgeable, although his apprentice seemed to do most of the work, Danny kept an eye on him to make sure it was done right. He had very reasonable pricing for re-keying.
Greg D (St Louis, MO) October 2011

He was extrememly fabulous and helpful and did a wonderful job. He was very professional.
Shannon M. (Arnold, MO) October 2011

Growing up spending so much of my time in Italy, the uniqueness of the Nova Classico left quite an impression on me. To be able to have and enjoy them in my own home here in the states is a nostalgic indulgence I'm enjoying beyond words. Thank you Danny for coordinating this transaction.

Joseph M (Chicago, IL) September 2011

great job. hired on the spot and he did job right then at great price

Ron B (Arnold, MO) July 2011

I searched the internet and found your services. I received three phone calls within several days. A service call was scheduled. Two gentlemen arrived promptly, analyzed the problem and fixed it.
James & Florenc M Saint Louis, MO July 2011

The repairman was on time and did an excellent job of fixing a very stubborn door lock. He was persistent and cleaned up the work area afterwards. I would use this service again.

Brenda F (Saint Peters, MO) June 2011

Danny at Master Key Systems has succeeded in making the purchasing of our Meroni door locks, from Italy, an absolute breeze. Even though I live in Australia with a 16hr time difference and was ordering door knobs from Italy that weren't in stock, the whole process was faultless. Danny was prompt and efficient with all his emails and made sure we had covered every possible variable so that the product I received was exactly as required. I would have no hesitation in recommending Danny for your next purchase.
    Patrick Carr (Canberra, Australia)

Your product really helped because I needed to secure a nurse's station adjacent to a waiting room and needed a pocket door. Unfortunately, no real options were available to lock a pocket door effectively that would keep me compliant with HIPAA and secure an area that stores medical supplies. This was vitally important as this particular waiting room was for "waiting detox patients". Thank you very much.
Randall R The Fritz Clinic (Birmingham, Al) March 2011

Danny was very polite and knew what the problem was and how to fix it. He also gave me some information about other issues that could arise with my door and locks. Will hire again if I ever need that type of work done.
Jason M Imperial, MO March 2011

I had an exterior basement door that dragged when opening and closing. The hinges were not fitting properly and the door frame had shifted, probably due to the age of the house. The screwswould not go far enough into the wall without hitting stone...even using a special drill bit. Dan worked a long time drilling and sanding to shore up the door as best as possible. I know it will never be perfect. He could have easily sold me a new door and the same issue would happen. He was honest, thorough, and did an excellent job without charging me a fortune. I'm satisfied with the door now. If you want an honest, experienced man, Then Dan is the man

Roger M Saint Louis, MO March 2011

I purchased the Cowdroy P697 Pocket door lock with key over the internet. I emailed questions before my purchase and was provided with the answers quickly by return email. The purchase was quick and easy and the lock was shipped immediatly. Installation is quick and easy. But you do need to convert millimeters to inches (use the internet) in the installation instructions. And the lock looks great and works great. I will do business with them again. THANK YOU

    Ed D (February, 2011)
