Credit cards used to duplicate keys

LAS VEGAS -- Life takes Visa, says the credit card company's catchy and ubiquitous TV ads.

And now, according to a group of security researchers speaking at the DefCon hacker conference in Las Vegas, Medeco high-security locks take Visa, too. As well as MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards.

To be more precise, the researchers say that plastic used in all of these credit cards can be easily fashioned into simulated keys that open three kinds of M3 high-security locks made by the Virginia-based Medeco Security Locks company -- locks that are used to secure sensitive facilities in places such as the White House, the Pentagon, embassies and other buildings.

"Virtually all conventional pin-tumbler locks are vulnerable to this method of attack, and frankly nobody has really considered it or looked at it before," says Marc Weber Tobias, one of the researchers.

The researchers showed Threat Level how they could create the simulated keys from plastic simply by scanning or photographing a Medeco key, printing the image onto a label and placing the label onto a credit card or other plastic to cut out the key with an X-Acto blade or scissors and then use the key to open a lock covertly.

Any credit card plastic will do to create a simulated key....

The researchers can make plastic keys, despite the fact that Medeco's M3 locks are supposed to be more secure than conventional locks, due to key-control measures designed to prevent unauthorized duplication of their keys.

"When you have a high-security lock, you don't expect this to be able to happen," says Tobias, an investigative lawyer who will be demonstrating the hack with Matt Fiddler, a computer-security researcher, and Tobias Bluzmanis, a Florida locksmith. "Key control is supposed to make this impossible to happen. That's what you're paying for."

High-security locks -- which can cost two to four times the price of a common Kwikset lock used in most homes -- have millions of possible key combinations, as opposed to just thousands in low-security locks. High-security locks also use patented key-control systems to prevent just anyone from duplicating the keys.

What this means is that only specific locksmiths who are authorized by the lock maker are given key blanks, key codes and equipment to make the keys. To ensure that no keys are made before a lock is sold, the locks are also shipped to the locksmith without pins in them -- the bars inside a lock cylinder that engage with the grooves on a key to open the lock. The pins are added by the seller after a customer purchases the lock, using proprietary key codes doled out to locksmiths by the lock manufacturer.

If a buyer wants additional keys made for the lock later on, he has to return to the same seller to have him make the keys or find another locksmith who is authorized to use that particular key code. Keys used in places like the White House would likely use an even higher level of key control, whereby only the manufacturer -- Medeco -- would be able to make duplicate keys....

The attack requires brief access to a high-security key long enough to take a picture of it with a camera phone or scan it, so it will likely have to involve an insider or someone else with access to keys -- such as a valet parking attendant.

"You're an employee and you loan it to somebody or your kid takes it off your key ring and makes a copy and tells his friends to break into the facility -- I can give you a lot of scenarios," Tobias says. "Insiders are always the biggest threat."...

"If you're a security manager for the Federal Reserve or Citibank, you have a belief that what the company is telling you is true, that unless it's authorized, nobody can reproduce your keys," Tobias says. "So if you give a key to an employee you don't have to worry about it. And that's the problem. It's not true."...

Researchers say the issue of the plastic keys is more serious than what they revealed last year at DefCon, when they demonstrated how they could bump and pick Medeco's patented M3 Biaxial and deadbolt locks -- locks that Medeco claimed were bump- and pick-proof. They were able to create bump keys for the locks after spending months analyzing Medeco's published key codes.

But by using plastic keys, the researchers can now crack the M3 locks in a way that doesn't require knowledge of key codes or any significant skills or equipment, although it does require brief access to a key to copy it....

Bluzmarin, who has been a locksmith for 25 years, says their research has forced him to rethink everything he once believed about Medeco locks.

"Basically if someone came to me (before) and said they could pick a Medeco lock, I'd say, 'You're crazy; you don't know what you're talking about.' If they told me they could open it with plastic, the same thing. I'd say, 'You're crazy.'

"Locksmiths don't have a clue what is going on. Your locksmith will tell you this is impossible."

Alarms or Locks. Which are better?

There are wide ranging discussions, in many and varied publications, forums and magazines, discussing the attributes of alarm systems and locking systems.

Many opinions exist and all opinions are certainly accepted on face value. However, I was recently involved in a lengthy discussion about which is considered the more secure option.

In my opinion both alarms and locks complement each other, however physical protection can only be seen to occur with a physical product.

Locks provide a mechanical physical component to securing an entrance. Alarms do not!

Alarms perform the task for which they are so named. They "alarm" people that a condition has occurred or is occurring.

In summation, my determination is that only locks and locking systems are designed to physically secure an entrance and alarms are simply a means to inform if an entrance is compromised.

So, when asked "Which is better?", the suitable reply should be "Locks are better".

Wallclock Safe

According to the Bureau of Statistics, most burglars spend less than six minutes inside a victim's home and only have time to check the most obvious places for valuables. With this product you can hide your valuables in what looks like an ordinary working wall clock- the last place a thief would think to look. The clock is 10 inches in diameter and 2 3/4 inches thick. The inside dimensions of the safe are 8 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 inches x 1 7/8 inches and is divided into 3 shelves. The WCS is a real clock; one AA battery is required (not included).

Sometimes, when purchasing some lock products, the templates or manuals have been lost or misplaced and installers or DIY'ers often require the instructions necessary for correct installation of their purchased products.

Many times, people have difficulty in sourcing a product manual or the installation instructions.

I recently found this excellent site, that has made available many of the templates and manuals for leading brands of locking hardware and products.

Wireless Voice Alarm System

Voice Alert System-6 is a new annunciator system featuring wireless PIR sensors transmitters and a remote receiver/speaker base unit. Users record their own alert messages and are then notified with their own voice message when activity in a monitored area is detected. Key applications include:
Wireless Driveway Alarm
Residential and Small Business Security
Child Monitoring and Pool Safety
Home Automation

System-6 allows a maximum of six user recorded messages. Each message is specific to one zone. For instance, zone one could be for a driveway alarm -“Car coming up the driveway” while zone two could be for a sensor monitoring the back yard- “Alert! Child by the pool!” Perhaps a third sensor guards a side entrance against intruders. However, when this PIR detects movement, the base unit plays “Intruder on patio” and triggers a floodlight using one of four relays included on the base unit. System-6 can monitor all three zones simultaneously and still have three additional zones available when needed. Users can alter their messages and place the wireless sensors wherever they wish.

Voice Alert System-6 sets up in minutes and can be completely customized to fit their individual needs. The wireless PIRs feature: all weather protection, adjustable mounting and sensitivity, and can send a signal 300 feet through walls and up to 1000 feet in open space.

Changing Locks

Many enquiries that locksmiths receive, are about the cost to change locks.

Often, clients are meaning to inquire as to just changing the combinations of their existing locks, so they can maintain the same hardware on their doors.

Or when the keys to their house, office or automobile have been misplaced, stolen or even copied unknowingly (suspected), they experience the need to re-code their locks.
Also many new home buyers or new tenants want to make sure that previous residents of their property can no longer gain entry.

Locksmiths across the country vary greatly in their fees. There are accepted industry averages published in locksmith publications like The National Locksmith magazine and the Locksmith Ledger magazine annually, but the going rate can vary from around $5.00 per keyhole to as much as $20.00 per keyhole for residential or commercial door locks and from $10.00 to $35.00 for automobile locks. Often this does not include labor for the removal and refitting of locks.

Master-keying is another charge that most locksmiths charge slightly higher fees for. Often, specialist products like Medeco or Multlock or Primus or Best or Assa or Abloy or Bilock products can incur significantly increased fees due to the higher cost for the pin or disc tumblers.

Locks210.com charges a standard fee of $10.00 per keyhole to re-key a standard residential or commercial door cylinder not including labor for removal and refitting. Master-keying is $15.00 per keyhole.

We can offer automobile re-keying services but prices are subject to application. There are many and varying brands and manufacturers of automobile lock cylinders, requiring multiple different keying kits. Stocking all possible kits to service all makes and models of foreign and domestic vehicles, requires significant amounts of warehousing that directly impacts costs.

If the products are brought to us, we charge the same fees without labor of course.

Most locksmiths will provide the first 2 keys at no charge. For residential or commercial doors (not automotive) we provide the first 3 keys.

For an obligation free estimate contact us today on (314)266-1533.

Hirsch Electronics' versatile building security solution

Increasingly, building managers and government organizations are finding they have to adopt more sophisticated security systems to protect their employees, customers and buildings from security threats. Where once employees may have been greeted by a friendly guard, they may now be required to enter complex identification codes and perhaps even have their fingers scanned before they can gain access to their office building.

Hirsch Electronics has manufactured the Verification Station to help deal with the complex nature of building security. The RUU GEN Verification Station is a high-security, multi-purpose biometric system which allows the administrator to select and change at will the means of entry to a building if the security situation changes.

For example, the administrator may choose to have employees use smart cards or fingerprints or they may have to use a number of authentication processes, perhaps their finger and smart card or their finger, smart card and identification code.

The unit is IP addressable and Power over Ethernet (PoE) ready and includes a ScramblePad which randomly scrambles the unique identification code entered by the user each time the start button is pushed, meaning a bystander cannot acquire the code by observing the buttons that were pressed and no wear pattern appears on the buttons. The ScramblePad has horizontal and vertical light guides that narrow the viewing field so the user is the only person who can see the display clearly and the user is given a unique identification code for which they are held accountable.

The unit also includes contact and contact-less smart card readers, a Cogent Systems minutiae-based fingerprint biometric reader and an LCD display.

To gain access to a building, a user may be required to do the following; insert their Contact Smart Card, enter their unique pin number, place their finger on the fingerprint plate and when all three operations match they will have their identity confirmed and authenticated.

Features of the RUU GEN Verification System

  • Four Applications in One Unit: Issuance; Remote Verification; Enrollment to PACS; Door/Gate Access Reader
  • Standalone or Networked
  • Protected PIN: Scrambling Digits Display; Viewing Restrictors; Privacy
  • Contact Card Reader
  • Contactless Card Reader
  • LCD Display
  • Rugged, All-Weather Housing

The Hirsch Verification Station was recently selected by Buildings magazine as a 2008 Editors’ Choice Top Product Pick.

USB Locking device

Flash drives are very useful devices. They are great for storing music, files, and documents. At times, the data you put onto your flash drive can be sensitive or just plain embarrassing. Like say for instance that your pals found out you keep your flash drive stuffed with Hannah Montana tunes. You can encrypt the data on some drives. Some drives like the Corsair Padlock take things a bit further than encryption.

Thanko has a new USB Lock flash drive cap that can turn any flash drive or USB device into the equivalent of the Duck super secure flash drive with the locking cap. The Thanko cap has a three-digit lock very similar to a bike chain lock that you can set yourself. You can also use the cap on any other USB plug to prevent people from using your stuff without permission. You would have to encrypt the data on the drive with other means though.

New Security Camera From D-Link

D-Link just introduce this latest addition to their line of cameras.
The D-Link Pan/Tilt/Zoom PoE Internet Camera (DCS-5610) is a full-featured surveillance camera designed to monitor the home, office, and small business. IP surveillance systems are quickly gaining ground over conventional CCTV security cameras due to superior performance, low costs, and convenient management. Features such as Power over Ethernet (PoE) support, 2.6x optical zoom, SIP 2-way audio, and 3G mobile phone support make this network camera a premier surveillance solution.
Optimal Placement
With the ability to Pan/Tilt/Zoom, the DCS-5610 is an ideal whole room surveillance camera. Mount the camera on the ceiling or wall and receive whole room surveillance. Support for 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) enables the DCS-5610 to receive both power and data over an RJ-45 Ethernet cable from a PoE enabled switch, negating the need for a nearby power source. The DCS-5610 supports 2-Way Audio with its built-in microphone and audio-out port*. Attach a powered speaker to the audio-out port and remotely communicate with anyone within close proximity to the camera.

Additionally, you can utilize the compatible IP Camera Outdoor Enclosure (DCS-70) to monitor and survey in harsh outdoor environments.

Viewing Quality
The DCS-5610 supports both MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG (MJPEG) to provide both high quality and bandwidth efficient compression formats. Motion JPEG delivers greater file integrity, making it ideal for detailed monitoring situations. MPEG-4 video utilizes compressed files, useful for extended recording periods or for use in low bandwidth networks. With support for 2.6x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom, you can view the camera’s video feed in close-up detail. Plus, the DCS-5610 supports a resolution of 640x480 at 30fps, allowing for high-quality recordings.

3GPP Mobile Surveillance
Support for 3GPP Mobile Surveillance allows you to view a live video feed from your compatible Internet-ready mobile phone or PDA with a 3GPP player installed. This extends your monitoring capability without requiring the use of a computer, allowing you to check your camera’s video feed while on-the-go.

Convenient Management and Monitoring
Manage the DCS-5610 using a Web-based interface or with the included D-ViewCam™ 2.0 management software. D-ViewCam 2.0 management software can manage up to 32 network cameras, send e-mail alert notifications, set recording schedules, and trigger motion detection to record directly to your hard drive. D-ViewCam 2.0 also allows you to upload a floor plan of your home and create a realistic layout of where your cameras are located, further simplifying the management process.

2003-2006 International Building Code Updates

The City of St Louis, Missouri adopted the 2003 International Building Code as it's standard charter for residential and commercial developments.

The most recent updates to the code appear to be 2003-2006.

What affects the "means of egress" part of the code is as follows:

Section 406.1.4 is updated to read, "Door openings between a private garage and a dwelling unit, shall be equipped with either solid wood doors or honeycomb core steel doors not less than 1 3/8" thick, or doors in compliance with section 715.4.3. Openings from a private garage to a room used for sleeping purposes, shall not be permitted. Doors shall be self-closing and self-latching."

And:

Section 1008.1.9 is updated to read, "Each door in a means of egress from a Group A or E occupancy having an occupant load of 50 or more and any Group H occupancy shall not be provided with a latch or lock unless it is panic hardware or fire exit hardware."

There are certain exemptions in rare circumstances, but the above is the gist of it.

City Of St Louis, Missouri Emergency Egress Laws

I have been looking into the particular rules for the City of St Louis, Missouri Emergency Egress laws, in order to be able to accurately and efficiently make the correct recommendations to potential customers.

St Louis City Revised Code Chapter 25.06: FIRE PREVENTION CODE, includes the following bylaws in section F4702.1 MEANS OF EGRESS.

SECTION F-4702.0 MEANS OF EGRESS

F-4702.1 Number of exits: In nonresidential buildings, every occupied story more than six stories above grade shall be provided with not less than two independent exits. In residential buildings, every story exceeding two stories above grade shall be provided with not less than two independent exits. In stories where more than one exit is required, all occupants shall have access to at least two exits. Every occupied story which is both completely below grade and greater than 2,000 square feet (186 m2) shall be provided with not less than two independent exits.

Exception: A single exit is acceptable under any one of the following conditions:

1. Where the building is equipped throughout with an approved automatic sprinkler system and an approved automatic fire detection system with smoke detectors located in all corridors, lobbies and common areas.

2. Where the building is equipped throughout with an approved automatic fire detection system, and the exit is an approved smokeproof enclosure or pressurized stairway.

3. Where an existing fire escape complying with the building code listed in Chapter 44 is provided in addition to the single exit.

4. Where permitted by the building code listed in Chapter 44.

Next, we will look at Chapter 44 to determine correct definitions and code compliance requirements.

Update: Chapter 44 appears to be elusive.

Markar Continuous Hinges

I really enjoy learning new ideas and skills that better my skill level and help me to provide broader ranges of products and services to my growing clients.

One such company, I only learned about in recent days, is Markar Architectural products.

Markar is a manufacturer of architectural grade adjustable continuous hinges and edge guards and has been a leader for innovative products in the hardware industry since 1969. Markar was the first manufacturer to produce a continuous pin and barrel hinge line and a patented adjustable continuous edge guard. By listening to its customers' feedback, Markar developed over seventy standard continuous hinge models in order to provide products for a wide variety of applications.

Markar is a company committed to growth and over the years has expanded its operation to include a door component line. Markar's lite kits and louvers are a cut above the rest for maximum strength and durability. As a subsidiary of the Adams Rite Manufacturing Co., Markar will continue to lead the way for innovative and advanced design concepts for the door and hardware industry.

Many people are unaware of the reasons their doors often stop working or have problems with closing and securing.

There can be multiple reasons for doors not functioning properly, but surprisingly, one of those reasons is very often overlooked.

An experienced tradesperson will usually be able to tell immediately where a problem may be.

It is often critical to also look at the hinges as one of the fundamental factors in repairing or maintaining quality security and functionality.

Pictured above are some diagrams depicting typical stress points on a typical door fitting.

Installation of continuous hinges, like the ones manufactured by Markar, can help to prevent these problems.

Confirmation from Local Fire Marshall

I recently met the local Fire Marshall and enjoyed a revealing conversation with him about life safety codes and the fire code.

Part of our discussion involved me showing him the following product.

This intelligent device simply slips over your existing entrance set and provides for a glow in the dark handle grip. Perfect for arthritis sufferers.

Opening doors just got easier. Stop struggling with slippery door knobs! Great Grips go over round door knobs, creating a secure, slip-free grip. Grips glow for up to 8 hours so you’ll never fumble for a knob in the dark again! No tool installation — simply moisten with water and stretch to fit. Set of 2.

Use of these sensational products is considered one of the least expensive methods for complying with ADA and AHJ panic exit requirements without the need to replace or install expensive hardware.

Most jurisdictions have adopted the 2003 International Building Code as the basis for construction. Many inspectors will not issue occupancy permits unless door hardware meets code. Now you can comply with the code without the need for expensive hardware.

The Fire Marshall was unfamiliar with the product, but appeared very enthusiastic and supportive of this incredibly inexpensive and thoughtful initiative to attempt to make existing hardware applications, safer.

Federal Trade Comission Consumer Alert

FTC Consumer Alert

The Keys to Hiring a Reputable Locksmith

If you’ve ever locked yourself out of your car or home, you know what a hassle it can be. Your first thought is to get someone to help you out of your situation. If a family member or friend can’t deliver a spare set of keys, your next call might be to a local locksmith. But before you make that call, consider this: According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, some locksmiths advertising in your local telephone book may not be local at all. They may not have professional training. What’s more, some of them may use intimidating tactics and overcharge you.

When “Local” Is Really Long-Distance

Consider this scenario: A company far away from your town chooses a name for its business that is very similar to the name used by a local locksmith. The company advertises in the phone book or on the Web using a local telephone number and local address. When you call the number, you’re actually connected to a call center in another city. What’s more, there’s no locksmith shop at the address listed.

You may be quoted a price on the phone, but when the locksmith arrives, often in an unmarked vehicle, he may want significantly more money. The locksmith also may accept only cash.

Some who claim to be “local locksmith” companies have multiple listings (sometimes 30 or more separate listings in a single phone book) with different names. But the calls to each of these numbers go back to the same central number in a distant city where operators dispatch untrained individuals to do the job.

Electronic Security Products - Should We? or Shant We?

Every so often, I am asked to recommend electronic locking products. Having been in the physical security industry over 25 years and worked in multiple continents, I have seen many and varied applications.

The electronic components in security products started way back in the early 20th century when the first electric strike was installed in an upmarket New York apartment complex.

Up until that time, multi-level apartment complexes required doormen and an escorted elevator trip. The advantage that the electric strike presented was the ability to enjoy a secure entrance unmanned 24 hours a day and 7 days a week at a significantly reduced cost.

Most electronic hardwired systems available today are required to be "fail-safe". This means that if the power fails or is interrupted, the device is un-secure. Many product manufacturers started putting in battery back-ups in their products to assist with security necessities.

The advent of wireless systems actually negates the fail-safe mentality until the battery runs out.....but even still many products have an in-built lithium polymer long life battery, to provide just enough power until the main source batteries can be recharged or replaced.

Technology is advancing rapidly and products are slowly becoming better quality and experiencing longer lives, however I still feel it necessary to recommend to my clients to maintain that mechanical back-up "just in case".

This is expressly why the locksmith industry will continue to exist, much to the negatives of some.

Locksmiths, for over 2 centuries have been designing, maintaining and creating systems and products designed to protect the assets of the marketplace. Locksmiths will continue to do so for the next 200 years, I'm sure.

When asked "Should We?".....my first answer is based on determining the true benefits. But I always will recommend a mechanical backup.

The true benefits could be, no more keys to worry about (what about the proximity card - doesnt this just take the place of a key?), the ability to perform audit trails (on sophisticated systems), combination entry (negates the need for a key, but requires a code to be remembered - this could lead to codes being shared - leading to a major security issue).

One of the best advances today is the advent of Bio-metric systems. Finger print identification systems can negate the need for a key or the need to remember a combination (you cannot lend your finger to someone else - can you?).

The marketplace should also remember that electronic security products are still expensive and not as generally reliable as mechanical security products. Locksmiths can provide restricted key control systems that enable end users to control who has keys to their properties. This is one of the least expensive and most secure methods for protecting assets, often without the need to replace costly hardware.

What Does It Cost To Get Locks Changed?

Many enquiries that locksmiths receive, are about the cost to change locks.

Often, clients are meaning to inquire as to just changing the combinations of their existing locks, so they can maintain the same hardware on their doors.

Or when the keys to their house, office or automobile have been misplaced, stolen or even copied unknowingly (suspected), the have the need to re-code their locks.

Stocking all possible kits to service all makes and models of foreign and domestic vehicles requires significant amounts of warehousing that directly impacts costs.

If the products are brought to us, we charge the same fees without labor of course.

Most locksmiths will provide the first 2 keys at no charge. For residential or commercial doors (not automotive) we provide the first 3 keys.

Air Vent Safe

Most safes make it pretty obvious that your valuables are inside, usually due to the combination lock or keypad on the outside. You can hide stuff under your matress or behind various other things that a thief would want to steal, but that’s pretty unorganized. What if you could hide your valuables inside of something that’s so common, that it’s completely out of sight? How about an air vent? To install it, just cut out a section of drywall, and put in the compartment fastening it with screws. It opens with a mechanism that is hidden in the grill and no one will see your stuff thanks to a black divider. It will cost you $259.95, but you have to admit, it’s the best hiding spot.

BioAxxis Fingerprint Door Lock Named Best by Good Housekeeping Research Institute

Syracuse, NY (June 3, 2008) –The Good Housekeeping Research Institute has tested and evaluated the BioAxxis® BD1, biometric deadbolt and the Institute has rated it the best compared to the others on the market. A revolutionary new lock from BioAxxis Development Corporation uses your fingerprint instead of a key, forever eliminating the need to fumble in pockets or purses and improving home security and safety. The lock, called the BD1 for Biometric Deadbolt, has been featured on CNBC and received the top honor for design and engineering at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2007.

The Good Housekeeping Research Institute just tested a few of these new locks to see if they're worth the money.

"Fingerprint-scanning technology is showing up in a lot of consumer products nowadays. You see it on laptops and printers, and more recently on front door openers and garage door openers," said Stacy Genovese, the Good Housekeeping Research Institute's Engineering Director.

After careful testing the Good Housekeeping Research Institute concluded the BioAxxis® BD1 the most reliable biometric lock. Genovese states, “The BioAxxis lock held up to all our testing and proved to be best door lock we tested.” The institute tested the lock in a variety of ways.

"We had many people register as users so they could open the doors, and then tested it on lots of other people that weren't registered to make sure it wouldn't let them in. We also tested it in a rain tester and in a humidity chamber set at 30 degrees so you could get in the winter," Genovese said

Locks210.com is an authorised dealer of Bioaxxis products. For an obligation free appraisal or demonstration, contact us on (314)266-1533.

Logitec WiLife CCTV Security System

The WiLife system consists of indoor and outdoor cameras as well as a variety of night-vision accessories that easily connect to a PC via USB.

How It Works
The system begins working as soon as it is plugged in, all the cameras installed and installed the newest version of the software, WiLife Command Center 2.5 on a PC.

The quality of the recordings is surprisingly good.

You can access those cameras for free over the Internet, even via cellphone, and the system can alert you via e-mail if anything moves. Remarkable. Any prowlers wanting to help themselves would have VGA-quality color movies (no sound) of them in the act. Just the mere presence of such cameras, with their highly visible red and green lights (which can be easily turned off), serves as a strong deterrent.

Platinum Edition
This WiLife system newest software, the Platinum Edition add-on, costs $79.95 per year. It lets you electronically pan and zoom all the cameras and, most importantly, store footage online. That makes tons of sense, because if someone is robbing your house, the computer with all the WiLife footage will probably be one of the first things stolen.

The downside? It's not perfect. The system is geared toward recording footage, so live viewing of all the cameras isn't as smooth as it could be. Also, while the cameras all have good low-light performance, they require an optional infrared lighting system and special lens to actually see faces at night. Keep in mind, too, that you’ll need a powerful PC to handle multiple cameras and recordings.

Costing is around $1,100 to set up a complete system with five cameras. A starter kit with one camera is $260, and each additional camera is around $215.

Danny was pleasure to meet and was very knowledgable. He explained several lock replacement options but I decided none of them were a good fit for a storm door, however, I did replace a lock on my entry door with a type of lock I had never seen before. I would highly recommend this company.
Patricia J (Bridgeton, MO) March 2014
They were prompt and showed up when he said he would show up. He knew his stuff. I had ordered new handles and he was honest enough to say that we don't need them that he can fix the doors and he did. Made me lock and unlock my doors to his satisfaction so that I knew what to do. Am very, very pleased with the service and cost.

The owner spent a longtime with me on the phone helping diagnosis the problem. He was on-time, friendly and helped resolve my issue. I will definitely use him again!

Chris C (Lake St Louis, MO) July 2013

I had a very pleasant experience with Master Key Systems. They came out, did the job (which took longer than expected) and they did not change the price they quoted me. Now, I am not certain that it was a great value for the money because I don't have a comparison, but they did what they said, when they said, for the price they said. Enough said!!!

Antonio B (Saint Louis, Missouri) March 2013

Professional.. Upfront about charges. Fixed the sticky door within 20 minutes. I will recommend Master Key for exterior door issues.
Muthu R (Ballwin, MO) July 2012

Marsha L (Saint Louis, MO) July 2012

Danny was excellent! I called him on a Monday to fix a sliding glass door. He happened to have the exact part we needed (and it was not an easy find - we had looked everywhere) and he came over Tuesday evening. He stayed until 8:00 until the job was done, and cleaned up afterwards. He was courteous, professional, and efficient! I could not be happier!

Rachel P Maryland Heights, MO (July 2012)

He did an excellent job. Got there on time and quickly solved the issue. Was very pleasant and explained the situation and how to keep the door from sticking in the future. Would definitely use Master Key LLC again!

Neil F. (Saint Louis, MO) April 2012

Danny was very friendly and knowledgeable, although his apprentice seemed to do most of the work, Danny kept an eye on him to make sure it was done right. He had very reasonable pricing for re-keying.
Greg D (St Louis, MO) October 2011

He was extrememly fabulous and helpful and did a wonderful job. He was very professional.
Shannon M. (Arnold, MO) October 2011

Growing up spending so much of my time in Italy, the uniqueness of the Nova Classico left quite an impression on me. To be able to have and enjoy them in my own home here in the states is a nostalgic indulgence I'm enjoying beyond words. Thank you Danny for coordinating this transaction.

Joseph M (Chicago, IL) September 2011

great job. hired on the spot and he did job right then at great price

Ron B (Arnold, MO) July 2011

I searched the internet and found your services. I received three phone calls within several days. A service call was scheduled. Two gentlemen arrived promptly, analyzed the problem and fixed it.
James & Florenc M Saint Louis, MO July 2011

The repairman was on time and did an excellent job of fixing a very stubborn door lock. He was persistent and cleaned up the work area afterwards. I would use this service again.

Brenda F (Saint Peters, MO) June 2011

Danny at Master Key Systems has succeeded in making the purchasing of our Meroni door locks, from Italy, an absolute breeze. Even though I live in Australia with a 16hr time difference and was ordering door knobs from Italy that weren't in stock, the whole process was faultless. Danny was prompt and efficient with all his emails and made sure we had covered every possible variable so that the product I received was exactly as required. I would have no hesitation in recommending Danny for your next purchase.
Patrick Carr (Canberra, Australia)

Your product really helped because I needed to secure a nurse's station adjacent to a waiting room and needed a pocket door. Unfortunately, no real options were available to lock a pocket door effectively that would keep me compliant with HIPAA and secure an area that stores medical supplies. This was vitally important as this particular waiting room was for "waiting detox patients". Thank you very much.
Randall R The Fritz Clinic (Birmingham, Al) March 2011

Danny was very polite and knew what the problem was and how to fix it. He also gave me some information about other issues that could arise with my door and locks. Will hire again if I ever need that type of work done.
Jason M Imperial, MO March 2011

I had an exterior basement door that dragged when opening and closing. The hinges were not fitting properly and the door frame had shifted, probably due to the age of the house. The screwswould not go far enough into the wall without hitting stone...even using a special drill bit. Dan worked a long time drilling and sanding to shore up the door as best as possible. I know it will never be perfect. He could have easily sold me a new door and the same issue would happen. He was honest, thorough, and did an excellent job without charging me a fortune. I'm satisfied with the door now. If you want an honest, experienced man, Then Dan is the man

Roger M Saint Louis, MO March 2011

I purchased the Cowdroy P697 Pocket door lock with key over the internet. I emailed questions before my purchase and was provided with the answers quickly by return email. The purchase was quick and easy and the lock was shipped immediatly. Installation is quick and easy. But you do need to convert millimeters to inches (use the internet) in the installation instructions. And the lock looks great and works great. I will do business with them again. THANK YOU

Ed D (February, 2011)
