Allegion Announce Acquisition Of Leading Australian Residential Hardware Manufacturer And Largest Australian Locksmith Company

Breaking News: Allegion, the parent company announced 30 days ago (May 13, 2018), their acquisition of leading Australian residential door hardware manufacturer Gainsborough and at the same time the acquisition of Australia's largest locksmith service provider API Locksmiths.















Gainsborough produce many leading residential door hardware among other offerings.

Gainsborough Hardware can be found in many dwellings and is even becoming a sought after offering to the wider USA market.





API Locksmiths are one of Australia's oldest and longest established locksmith companies. In fact, I completed my apprenticeship with AF Stewart Locksmiths in 1988 before they were later (much later) acquired by API Locksmiths.

This acquisition by Allegion is a major shake up of the locksmith market across Australia.






Allegion are well known in North America and around the world as the parent company behind brands like:

AD Systems

AD Systems are a company first established in 2013 specializing in upscale commercial sliding door entrance systems, tailored to hospitals, medical clinics and offices to meet the modern needs of doctors, architects and space conscientious builders and tenants.


AXA Company

AXA are a Dutch company based in the Netherlands with production facilities also in France and Poland. Established in 1902, they have been specializing in residential hardware and security products and bicycle security products.

Bricard

Bricard, first established in 1782, have been a stalwart of the residential and commercial hardware manufacturing industry. Creating locksmith friendly products like high-security key control systems, panic devices, padlocks, rimlocks, safes, door closers ets, they have continued operations for over 230 years.

Brio

Brio, founded in the early 1970's are a Sydney Australia manufacturer of specialty sliding and folding door hardware and doors. Acquired by Allegion in 2015 as part of their Asia-Pacific global expansion, they continue to make world leading products favored by industry and architects alike. now with offices in USA and UK, Brio supply their upmarket products to significantly larger markets.

Briton 

Briton are a well known, long established manufacturer of high quality door closers, panic exit devices and access control hardware throughout Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and in later years, North America. This 100 year old company have been making easy to install, maintain and service door hardware that are competitively priced and aesthetically pleasing. Their continued success since their Allegion acqisition has seen them soar to new highs.

Cisa

Cisa are a long established Italian leader in access control products especially designed for the hotel/motel industry. We have written a number of articles about Cisa products in recent years and continue to sing the praises of their quality manufacturing, even though they have chosen to not support the USA market until someone ponies up their minimum $1M investment.

Dexter (by Schlage)

Dexter, were a leading American manufacturer of residential (and commercial) door hardware for many years in the early days of the USA market. They were acquired by Schlage many years ago and because many of their products were functionally similar to Schlage offerings, Schlage decided to reduce the quantity of Dexter items, in ensuing years. Many locksmith tradespeople across North America and other countries, still encounter the occasional Dexter product in the field. The products were made using quality materials, that stand the test of time, hence why we still find them in the field.

Falcon

Falcon are a very well known American hardware brand, sold primarily through building and construction companies for commercial constructions. Falcon, at one time had merged with Best, the company known for it's invention of the typical IC Core cylinders we still see today, rampant across America. I believe they parted ways a few years ago, when Stanley purchased the Best brand from Falcon and Allegion acquired Falcon. Falcon, through Allegion have reduced the number of differing products in their range, making them a leaner, yet more profitable operation, concentrating on their unique solutions that provide the commercial lock and hardware market with competitively priced Grade 1 hardware.

FSH

FSH are a specialty electronic security products manufacturer providing the wider Australian and Asia-Pacific markets with leading electronic security solutions that stand the test of time. Specializing in electronic access control hardware and leaving other types of locking devices to different manufacturers, allows FSH to remain competitive in their market. A well known Australian manufacturer with longevity in the region, FSH continue to progress since the acquisition by Allegion,

Glynn-Johnson

Glynn-Johnson have been a market leader in North America for many years. They specialize in overhead door holders and closers for the commercial market, especially sought by hospitals, medical clinics and research laboratories.

Inafer

Inafer, a Colombian and Latin American manufacturer and long time Schlage partner in South America, produce a number of Schlage products in the local market. They do have some unusual rimlocks that appear to be well made and very strong.

Interflex

Interflex, first established in 1976 and acquired by Allegion in 2013 as part of their global expansion, produce hardware and software security system and workforce management solutions aimed at integrating different products into a central management network. Originally started in Stuttgart Germany, they continue to provide the European market with premium solutions that maximise security while minimizing the management tasks associated with complex security systems.

ITO Kilit

ITO Kilit are a Turkish manufacturer specialising in cylinders, padlocks, master keying, door closers and panic exit devices in the wider Turkish and European markets. Established in 1954, they have been a continuing active presence in Turkish manufacturing, employing 320 plus people for many years, the acquisition by Ingersoll-Rand and then consequently by Allegion cemented their continuing presence in the Turkish and wider European region. Their primary manufacturing facility is located in Duzke Turkey.

Ives

Ives are a very well known name in the door hardware and furnishings market across North America and surrounding countries. Their almost limitless range of hardware accessories including hinges, pivots, flush bolts, strikes, pulls, protection plates, lock guards and many other accessories, cement them as a market leader in high quality and aesthetically pleasing commercial hardware products.

Kryptonite

Kryptonite became a well known name in North America, France and Germany over the course of many years, for their unqique bicycle and motor bike security locking solutions. The primary product that many people recognize Kryptonite for is their "D" lock. A "D" shaped lock product that securely attaches a bicycle through the wheel and frame to a nearby post.

Perhaps(arguably) the most well known lock and door hardware manufacturer in the wider North American market and in many following years, the wider Asia-Pacific markets, the middle east and many European countries, Schlage produces some of the most sought after products for all facets of the door and hardware industries. With wide ranging choices, colors, styles etc to suit even the most discerning tastes, Schlage continue to lead the world market and compete with the other leading related manufacturing behemoth Assa-Abloy.
