Schlage Primus Bump Key Attack

The above video is one of the most recent items of evidence that clearly show Schlage Primus locks are NOT BUMP PROOF.

There are multiple advertizers online that falsely advertize Primus as a bump proof product. It never has been or is capable of being bump proof.

While it is true, that Primus is a very good quality product, this video evidence proves beyond any doubt that the product is not bump proof as advertized by so many online marketers.

So who do you believe today?
If some locksmiths are proven wrong, who do you trust?

Put your trust in Bilock Extreme Security products. The original 100% fully guaranteed bump proof pin tumbler product on the market.

Update 7/20/09
I am not so sure if readers fully appreciate the temerity of the situation with bump keys. Bump keys can be created by anyone who has access to the pin tumbler key belonging to a lock or group of locks. You see, if someone has a key in their hand, that slides into the desired keyhole (it doent have to turn - just slide in), they can create a bump key for that very lock or group of locks.

Where it gets scarier, is considering that large institutions, universities, churches, hospitals, public amenities, government capitol buildings, defense department facilities, naval boats, office complexes etc, that operate using a master key system or multiple systems are even more prone to this simple form of attack. Master key systems that employ the modern pin tumbler principle ( as originally patented by Linus Yale in 1864), which include almost all the most recognizeable brands today, Schlage, Kwikset, Tylo, Yale, Corbin, Assa, Medeco, Primus, Scorpion, Lockwood, Russwin, Baldwin, Cambridge, Plymouth, Mul-t-lock, Best, Falcon, Master, ILCO, American Lock just to name a few are built using multiple pins (also called wafers) in each tumbler position. This fundamentally exposes each lock cylinder to substantially less security. These keyholes are even easier to circumvent using the bump key techniques.

Kwikset Smart Key - Making Keys

Kwikset Smartkey Locks have been on the market a few years now. Many of these locks have been purchased at the big box hardware stores, without any clue as to the procedure for replacing lost keys.

The lock is able to rekeyed but it is fundamental to have at least one working key.

The use of the above pictured reset tool is required to make a key when all existing keys have been lost.

First, the door it is fitted to needs to be unlocked. The lock must be dismantled and the cylinder removed.

The cylinder is then inserted correctly into the cradle and the actuator turned to the reset position. Insert a new precut key and rekey to same.

Remove cylinder and replace in lock.

In future, you can still rekey this lock provided you have at least one working key.

Locksmith Hardware - Competing With Brand Name Products

Locksmiths across the world sell multiple different brands of hardware. The more well known brands, like Schlage and Kwikset are often found in the big box chain stores as well as locksmith shops, but often there are other less well known but competitively priced alternatives, that sometimes are manufactured from better quality materials that many customers will never see on the rack.

I really like the Cal-Royal brand products because they offer a wide range of hardware that is excellent quality and competitively priced to the mainstream big name brands.

I have also recently been using the LSDA brand of hardware products, because they are found more locally to

me and are stocked by local distributors. Pictured to the left here are some of the products in their range. LSDA are rarely found other than at locksmith companies, but their quality is exemplary and their prices are very competitive to Schlage and Kwikset. They offer the ability to key to either Kwikset or Schlage type keys.

When choosing to update your door hardware, it is worthwile to consider alternative brands to the big name stuff, because often the products come with significantly longer warranties than the brand name stuff and their prices are super-competitive.

LSDA product come with a lifetime warranty on finish (plating) and a 15 year warranty on mechanical parts.

The price point is super competitive and parts can be easily sourced by any locksmith in the country, so you are not required to necessarily shop at the one provider.

For interest in any of the LSDA range, please contact us and we will offer super-competitive pricing.

Keyed Pocket Door Lock Will Soon Work With Thicker Doors Using Easy To Install Modification Kit - Exclusive Supplier

Our fabulous keyed pocket door lock is especially designed for 1-3/8" thick doors.

Until now, that is.

We are in the final stage of production of an expansion kit that will allow you to use this fabulous lock on 1-3/4" thick doors.

You can now even get cylinders that will allow you to re-key to Schlage (or almost any key-way) 6 pin tumbler key-ways.
We were the only dealer in the USA until recently, but we are the only dealer with the modification package allowing installation up to 1-7/8" thick doors without the difficult modifications offered by other dealers.

The modification kit will be able to be purchased in almost any brand key-way, so you will be able to use Schlage, Yale, Kwikset, Sargent or just about any restricted key or high-security key control systems like Bilock, Primus, Abloy etc.

We are the exclusive manufacturer of this modification kit. It is not quite ready for public release but we expect to make it available in about 2 months.

To maintain our exclusivity on this modification kit, we will not be tabling our technique for using this fabulous product on thicker doors, much to the angst of our wannabe competitors.

EDIT 2/22/14: Lockwood just informed us of a price rise of 15% for the product, effective immediately. This may have to be carried over to our next inventory orders. If you want this product, now is the time to order it prior to the expected price increase.

Can Schlage Securekey Locks Be Masterkeyed?

Schlage Securekey Locks cannot be masterkeyed.

Likewise, neither can Kwikset Smartkey locks.

In fact, none of the current crop of self-rekeyable products on the market can be masterkeyed.

There is one exception, however.

The fabulous Matrix key system invented by a talented locksmith engineer in Australia, can offer rekeyable attributes (limited) while also being part of a master key system.

Mul-T-Lock Easily Bypassed And Bumped Open

A few years ago I had shown this video here on this site to make people aware of potential vulnerabilities in the product. It should be noted that this is clearly in a carefully set up workshop but the technique is correct and identifies that the product has vulnerabilities that are alarming.

Mul-T-Lock have since come out with newer updated versions that include interactive elements (like Bilock) and they are priced at the higher end of the marketing landscape. Mul-t-lock, like Medeco are both owned by Assa-Abloy and neither are bump or pick proof. Schlage Primus and Schlage Everest are products owned by Ingersoll Rand and are neither bump proof nor pick resistant compared to the more competitively priced Bilock product. Bilock is the first 100% Guaranteed Bump Proof and Virtually Pick Proof pin tumbler product available.

Pictured above is a list of our all time most popularly viewed posts, including their publication date, pageviews and number of comments.

When we began writing this weblog, we hoped to receive a few visits from readers of the world wide web and are reasonably happy with our progress.

When we began writing this blog in 2007, we thought it might provide our main website and consequently our penetration into the wider market, we had no idea that it would prove as popular as it has. While we could be posting more often, for being a micro-business, we just havent the staffing levels to support enough authors, editors and trained staff to operate the multiple tasks needed to keep the business operating. Therefore, we are only finding limited time to write new content.

Meroni Nova Entrance Set Installed In Place Of Very Old Schlage Privacy Knobset with 5 Inch Latch Backset

Image1
A couple of days ago, a returning customer (we love these), requested to install a lockable knob to an office door at their home.

The particular door had about a 45 year old Schlage Privacy Knobset with a 5 inch (127mm) latch backset mechanism.
(see image 1)

The knob was in the color US26D or Satin Chrome (Nickel).

To measure the latch backset on your door, measure the distance between the edge of the door and the center of the handle.

Image 2

Image 3

(Image 3 shows the interior of the lock)

Now, finding an identical replacement entrance set would have been a time consuming chore, especially considering many manufacturers do not make 5" (127mm) latch backset mechanisms anymore. The standard residential latch backset mechanism in America is 2-3/8" (60mm), while the standard commercial latch backset mechanism in America is 2-3/4" (70mm).
(Image 2 shows a close up view of the original knob)

Luckily for us, as the North American distributor for the fabulous Serrature Meroni lock products, we keep a number of their unique handle and door hardware products in stock.

All the door handles in this beautiful home are in US26D (Satin Chrome) and we needed to be sure to provide a suitable entrance set that matched the interior decor of the house.

Image 4
After removing the old lock and mechanism we replaced the latch mechanism with a Meroni 5" (127mm) latch backset mechanism.

(Image 4 is external) (Image 5 is internal)

Image 7
Image 6 shows the existing strike plate fitted to this beautiful frame. We decided to not install the accompanying Meroni strike plate, because to do so would have meant modifying the existing strike plate cutout in the frame and would have looked, amateur. Instead we modified the existing strike plate tom accept the Meroni latch

Image 7 shows the Meroni Nova N13 Entrance set, as it looks from inside. A turnbutton for inside use and key operated on the outside.
Image 8

Image 8 displays how beautifully the Meroni Nova N13, matches the decor of the house.

The lock is simple to operate and has no turning method. You simply push the button to operate the mechanism.

The broad color options of Meroni Doorware pleases discerning home owners and interior designers, wishing to match their doorware to color schemes of their homes.

Quite simple to install and operate, these products have been in the North American market about 20 years and enjoy great longevity because of their quality.

One extra benefit to using any of the range of Meroni doorware is the ease of use, especially for arthritis suffers or the physically challenged.

Competitively priced and user friendly, Meroni doorware offers customers nouveau - modern, aesthetically pleasing hardware to complement virtually any decor.

Available exclusively from Master Key Systems America LLC.

Search Results for February 2011

Time for the updated search results that led searchers to this site. February 2011 Top Ten search terms across multiple search engines.

Schlage Securekey Problems takes the lead this time but it was a close race with Kwikset Smart Key Problems not so far behind.

These indices might also indicate that more consumers are experiencing problems with Schlage Securekey products than Kwikset Smartket Products, but that is not a given.

Koowy, our article about a small piece of software that we have been involved with as a beta tester has taken third this time.

Pocket Door Locks, continue to be an often sought for term, that also lead people here. Sales are through the roof for the product and no wonder. We are expecting replenishing supplies through in a few months, but there will likely be a price rise due to all worldwide costs having increased significantly.

Meroni, the highly respected European lock manufacturer gets a mention too. We are expecting hard copy samples very soon. One of the last remaining independent lock manufacturers left in Italy, Meroni is well known across the continent for it's quality and consistency.

When you compare the different brands of deadbolts currently on the market, most will vary in price due to the ANSI grade, the brand name and the quality of construction.

Many front or back doors on homes across America, already use Kwikset or Schlage Grade 3 deadbolts as the common product. The average price for these brand name products are between $35 and $70. Considering they do not offer any protection from key duplication, bump or pick attempts, makes this Bilock/Cal-Royal Hybrid combination, a very affordable solution to protecting your family and property.

We will also be introducing a Bilock/Cal-Royal Hybrid deadbolt and Strikemaster II Pro door frame strengthener package, soon. This will enable you to secure your doors with the finest lock system available and combine it with the best door frame strengthener on the market. Smartphones To Open Doors For World's Biggest Lock Company As It Eyes Deal With Telcos

Assa Abloy is the world's largest lock manufacturing company.
Last year alone it made more than $300 million, across multiple different manufacturers.

There has been a continual, albeit modest push to introduce more and more electronic smartphone enabled lock systems across their diverse range of products.

technology companies like Samsung, Apple and Google have been at the forefront of research and development of all things smartphone, ever since Google beat Apple to market with the first Android mobile operating system.

Many startups have entered the market, touting their own novel products aimed at the residential home security market.
Products like Lockitron, August Lock, Yale Real Living and Schlage or Kwikset Z wave, to name but a few.

The automobile industry has long used the transponder chip technology to better secure our cars and trucks, but the residential entry door market has lagged behind this disruptive technology, only due to the issue relating to electricity.

You see, the reason electronic technologies work on vehicles is because vehicles already use batteries to start, run and power vehicle systems.

Most doors in a dwelling are free standing and most often NOT connected to a power source. This has lead to a surge in the number of battery powered products, like the brands listed above, entering the market. The primary drawback with these products, is the need to constantly be replacing batteries on the units to maintain operability.

There are many dwellings that use electric strikes and hardwired electric lock systems, but that technology, even though it has been around for over 100 years, is expensive to install and consequently maintain.

The market is heating up and demanding better electronic technology for use in our homes, but there has been little productive solutions to the issue of the lack of power.

Whereas the market will continue to develop and no doubt grow, I just cannot conceivably fathom the perfect or best solution to this power predicament. When the power dilemma finally gets solved, perhaps electronic and smartphone technologies will provide a benefit to us home owners who dont want to spend the required arm and leg to hard wire our doors, when a totally mechanical, environmentally friendly, green mechanical key operated hardware solution continues to provide ultimate comparative security and convenience for our homes.

Solid Brass Pocket Door Locks

Hot on the heel of our recent Pocket Door Lock With Key, we are happy to be able to bring you a different style of pocket door lock made from solid brass.

This product (we will make available soon) is fundamentally different in design, but offers the ability to install to an entry door. Using an inside thumbturn assembly, the lock can be easily opened from the desired side, or from both sides, if needs be.

Below, find the different style handles available, to suit every desired function. Using one body design allows for multiple applications, reducing cost to manufacture. This particular flip bolt feature is unique to sliding door locks and is widely known around the world as the best design for locking sliding doors.

Brass is a self-lubricating metal, requiring less maintenance than the pre-fabricated modern materials used in more mainstream products.

We will be able to provide these locks with different keyways, like Schlage, Baldwin, Kwikset, Weiser or Weslock and we will even be able to master key, if required.

He came in time took care of it on the same day. (Sasheethn K St Louis MO) June 2018d out problems but assured not urgent. Charlie M. (St Louis, MO) November 2015

Danny was pleasure to meet and was very knowledgable. He explained several lock replacement options but I decided none of them were a good fit for a storm door, however, I did replace a lock on my entry door with a type of lock I had never seen before. I would highly recommend this company.
Patricia J (Bridgeton, MO) March 2014
They were prompt and showed up when he said he would show up. He knew his stuff. I had ordered new handles and he was honest enough to say that we don't need them that he can fix the doors and he did. Made me lock and unlock my doors to his satisfaction so that I knew what to do. Am very, very pleased with the service and cost.
Joyce K (Glencoe, MO) May 2015

Denise S (Imperial, MO) May 8, 2014

Hired Danny to re-key locks on "new" house purchase. He advised to replace with new deadbolts & door knobs on 3 entry doors instead which I agreed with. All doors have 1 matching key & the safety of excellent quality product & workmanship. He also added new strike plate to door frame to complete project.. Chris C (Lake St Louis, MO) July 2013

I had a very pleasant experience with Master Key Systems. They came out, did the job (which took longer than expected) and they did not change the price they quoted me. Now, I am not certain that it was a great value for the money because I don't have a comparison, but they did what they said, when they said, for the price they said. Enough said!!!

Antonio B (Saint Louis, Missouri) March 2013

Professional.. Upfront about charges. Fixed the sticky door within 20 minutes. I will recommend Master Key for exterior door issues.

He happened to have the exact part we needed (and it was not an easy find - we had looked everywhere) and he came over Tuesday evening. He stayed until 8:00 until the job was done, and cleaned up afterwards. He was courteous, professional, and efficient! I could not be happier!

Rachel P Maryland Heights, MO (July 2012)

He did an excellent job. Got there on time and quickly solved the issue. Was very pleasant and explained the situation and how to keep the door from sticking in the future. Would definitely use Master Key LLC again!

Danny was very friendly and knowledgeable, although his apprentice seemed to do most of the work, Danny kept an eye on him to make sure it was done right. He had very reasonable pricing for re-keying.
Greg D (St Louis, MO) October 2011

He was extrememly fabulous and helpful and did a wonderful job. He was very professional.
Shannon M. (Arnold, MO) October 2011

Growing up spending so much of my time in Italy, the uniqueness of the Nova Classico left quite an impression on me. To be able to have and enjoy them in my own home here in the states is a nostalgic indulgence I'm enjoying beyond words. Thank you Danny for coordinating this transaction.

Joseph M (Chicago, IL) September 2011

Ron B (Arnold, MO) July 2011

I searched the internet and found your services. I received three phone calls within several days. A service call was scheduled. Two gentlemen arrived promptly, analyzed the problem and fixed it.
James & Florenc M Saint Louis, MO July 2011

The repairman was on time and did an excellent job of fixing a very stubborn door lock. He was persistent and cleaned up the work area afterwards. I would use this service again.

Brenda F (Saint Peters, MO) June 2011

Danny at Master Key Systems has succeeded in making the purchasing of our Meroni door locks, from Italy, an absolute breeze. Even though I live in Australia with a 16hr time difference and was ordering door knobs from Italy that weren't in stock, the whole process was faultless. Danny was prompt and efficient with all his emails and made sure we had covered every possible variable so that the product I received was exactly as required. I would have no hesitation in recommending Danny for your next purchase.
Patrick Carr (Canberra, Australia)

Your product really helped because I needed to secure a nurse's station adjacent to a waiting room and needed a pocket door. Unfortunately, no real options were available to lock a pocket door effectively that would keep me compliant with HIPAA and secure an area that stores medical supplies. This was vitally important as this particular waiting room was for "waiting detox patients". Thank you very much.
Randall R The Fritz Clinic (Birmingham, Al) March 2011

Danny was very polite and knew what the problem was and how to fix it. He also gave me some information about other issues that could arise with my door and locks. Will hire again if I ever need that type of work done.
Jason M Imperial, MO March 2011

I had an exterior basement door that dragged when opening and closing. The hinges were not fitting properly and the door frame had shifted, probably due to the age of the house. The screwswould not go far enough into the wall without hitting stone...even using a special drill bit. Dan worked a long time drilling and sanding to shore up the door as best as possible. I know it will never be perfect. He could have easily sold me a new door and the same issue would happen. He was honest, thorough, and did an excellent job without charging me a fortune. I'm satisfied with the door now. If you want an honest, experienced man, Then Dan is the man

Roger M Saint Louis, MO March 2011

I purchased the Cowdroy P697 Pocket door lock with key over the internet. I emailed questions before my purchase and was provided with the answers quickly by return email. The purchase was quick and easy and the lock was shipped immediatly. Installation is quick and easy. But you do need to convert millimeters to inches (use the internet) in the installation instructions. And the lock looks great and works great. I will do business with them again. THANK YOU

Ed D (February, 2011)
