Hooply Locks - Inquiries Flood In Due To Recent Hurricanes In USA

We have talked about the Hooply range of products, over the past few years (See Hooply) and now we are adding some additional pictures of products in their vast range and style of locks and handle systems.

Pictured above, is The Hooply Large Handle Series HL-9978. It is shown with a fancy brass thumbpress entrance set.

The lock body and mechanism are surprisingly solid and strong, compared to more mainstream products found in North America. You can see the lock bolts with 4 stainless steel bolts besides the latch mechanism, providing superior strength from destructive entry.

Hooply superior lock products incorporate high-security dimple type keys and cylinders in many of their range because the wider industry has found dimple locks to be harder to pick and bump, keys are more difficult to duplicate and offer security for those reasons.

Hooply products are often built into hurricane proof doors because of their unique strength, combined with their upmarket beauty and easy conventional operation.

With America reeling from a few hurricanes affecting millions of people in recent weeks, Hooply locks, which are used in many upmarket residences to protect from hurricane winds, have been found to protect residences from forces of wind, rain and flooding.

Now, dont get me wrong! We do understand there are some minor issues regarding the strength of the actual handle mechanisms, but the main lock body and securing components of the hardware are second to none in my opinion.

More pictures... (we apologise for picture quality as these come directly from our factory catalog)

There are many more styles and options in our catalog.
We can source parts for you.

Hooply - Armored Door Locks

Zhejiang Hongli Locks Co, is based in China. They are a well known manufacturer of some interesting high security lock products that differ greatly to mainstream products found in the USA.

Pictured below, is a version of their armored lock. This virtually impregnable door lock is a mortice lockset comprising 6 stainless steel round bolts and a latching mechanism.

They produce Hooply, Cefiro and Mingbang as their 3 primary brand lines.

The company employs about 800 people and continues to be a dominant player in the Asian high security lock manufacturing industry.

The cylinders used in these locks are known as lever type locks. They use double sided mortice bit keys (skeleton like). This means they are 100% bump proof and very difficult to pick.

Even duplicating these keys is a chore.

I have duplicated similar types of these keys, early in my career and I know they are very exact with very tight tolerances. They are usually required to be copied by hand, because finding suitable duplication machinery is not only difficult but incredibly expensive.

I remember being required to fashion a blank by braising a flag to both sides of a steel stem. Then gently filing the blank until it was similar in shape to the original.

I worked with a very learned professional, early in my apprenticeship, who taught me to use putty (plasticene) or play dough to form a mould around the original. I was then able to create a perfect duplicate using the mould as a guide.

Difficult and time consuming, the reward was customer satisfaction and the knowledge that the key worked perfectly the first time it was tried.

Our Most Popular Products Include...

The Bilock Deadbolt Lock. Our signature product, from when we first opened our business here in the USA, a little over 10 years ago is still Bilock. The Bilock Deadbolt is the most popular of the Bilock products repeatedly requested.
Concerned consumers request Bilock due to it's superior resistance to picking and bumping. The color coded keys help in easily identifying correct operating keys. Our signature authority system prevents unauthorised key production. Often, we can provide just the Bilock cylinder and keys that can be installed in many existing leading brands of hardware too, minimizing the cost to the homeowner and maintaining the existing ambience of the trim on the door.

The Pigio 1 by Serrature Meroni, is quickly rising as one of our popularly requested products because it allows the user to easily operate the push pull mechanism without the need to grip and turn the knob

The Pigio 2 by Serrature Meroni is also seeing increased popularity for similar reasons the the Pigio 1.
The Combina by Serrature Meroni is the modern version of the unique Premiapri mechanism and is available in so many color options to suit varying tastes of consumers.

The Cowdroy P697 Keyed Pocket Door Lock (now discontinued by us) was the first of our popular lock systems for pocket or cavity doors. It was pulled from our inventory for not meeting ADA/Building codes. (Key operated both sides)

The enormously popular best seller, The Lockwood 7444 Keyed Pocket Door Lock exceeds the requirement of the many pocket door owners across the USA and Canada. The unique design, combined with a 5 pin tumbler that is identical to a Kwikset Keyway, complements this product. The Lockwood range of picket and cavity door locks, also includes privacy (bathroom/bedroom), passage and passage latching versions.

The Serrature Meroni range of furniture and cabinet lock systems, mechanisms, electronic control desk lock systems, drawer hinges, door closers, electric strikes, door handles, mailbox locks, etc are second to none worldwide for their quality and vast product range. This fine Italian company is on the cutting edge of design, that many other brands look to, for improving their offerings too. Still the best and still the worldwide leader in intelligent and ambient locking systems.
The Meroni Nova is the flagship of the Serrature Meroni line of door handle hardware. Easily our second most poular selling product.

The Combina Anti-Bacterial handle system prevents the spread of unwanted pathogens or diseases by dissipating germs on contact. Perfect solution for child care centers, hospitals, aged care facilities.

The Bilock Grade 2 Light Duty Commercial/Heavy Duty Residential entrance set comes with a 15 year warranty on the hardware. Unique keying system and bump proof/pick resistant mechanism makes this product complement the Bilock Deadbolt written about above.
Hooply, a Chinese range of specialty handles and locking systems aimed at residential markets that are prone to hurricanes or brash weather systems are a popular product found most often in New York City or Florida. We were once the dealer for this product line, but found demand too small to continue. We still have contacts with the manufacturer and their catalog. We are happy to prvide the company contact to enquirers.
Sliding Patio Doors are one of our most common service requests by customers. We service and lubricate a great many of these doors across the greater St Louis Region, often without requiring to replace wheels or rollers.

A Simple repair usually takes about an hour (average) and costs about $99, including attendance and lube.

The Lockwood 002L is a rim mounted lever deadlatch that is one of, if not the strongest in it's class of secure locking hardware products. Not cheap. Expertly designed and demanded by those who demand the ultimate security.

Lockwood's flagship product for over 50 years is still the best.

What Is Your Preferred Door Hardware Color Finish?

What Is Your Preferred Door Hardware Finish?

What is your preferred door hardware color finish? We have been taking a long look through our invoices over the last 15 years and determined the most popular and preferred color finish selections from our vast list of clients.

The stock photo above is an image of a piece of nickel. We include it here because of the sudden rise in the market price of nickel ore, just in the last 2 days. We suspect there are obvious reasons for this sudden spike, given the political and economic upheavals our world is currently experiencing, but this story made me think about the most common request for color finishes of door hardware, knobs, deadbolts, lever entrance sets. thumbpress entrance locksets, hinges, peepholes, door sweeps, blocker plates, wrap-arounds etc, among some of the products we have sold, serviced and installed over the years.

The common finishes in the market in the USA and other countries around the world are pretty much similar even though some places choose varying preferences, which could be regional among other reasons.

I'm sure people across the industry and around the world, decorators, interior and exterior designers, locksmiths, builders, retailers etc would enjoy understanding why some color selections are made over others and if you would like to share your preferred color finish choices in the comments below that'd be great.

According to our deep dive into our books, the preferred door hardware color finishes are topped by the Satin Nickel choice.

Antique Brass comes a distant second followed closely by polished brass, with venetian bronze and florentine bronze bringing up the rear. Black is finding more traction in recent years but is still farther down the list of preferences.

We have been representing a few manufacturers over the last 15 years, including Serrature Meroni products, Assa-Abloy Lockwood, Schlage, Kwikset, Weslock, Hooply, to name a few.

Many contractors and retailers will offer a variety of color options to fit the unique tastes of clients. Simply ask your chosen contractor if your desired door hardware color finish is available.

If you want to know more about door hardware color finishes and styles of door hardware, Contact Us on 314-266-1533 or by email and a customer service person will be glad to help.

Leading Russian Lock Manufacturer - Mettem Lock Produces Virtually Impregnable Locking Solutions

Mettem-Production LLC are well known as one of the leading lock and security product manufacturers in Russia and the Eastern hemisphere.

Established in 1992, they quickly became an established name in the greater Russian region, for their super-high quality range of unique door locks and electro-mechanical security solutions.

I realize that in many parts of the western hemisphere, some people harbor negative thoughts about Russia and Russian products, with some political regimes choosing to enforce trade sanctions to attempt to harm them financially. We choose to not enter into the political debate herein and prefer that this site continues it's core objective of informing you about products and services we recommend, offer, discuss and like.

Mettem produce leading products in the mortise and rim lock range, electro-mechanical, mechanical, cylinder operated, mortise key operated, combined cylinder and electronic operated, code operated even specific locks tailored for fire-proof doors.

Mettem locks are made using high-quality alloy steel construction that complies with and often exceeds the strict Russian Governmental standards regime. (which arguably exceeds the Underwiters Laboratory regime in America).
Mettem reapply for the Government certification every 2 years to maintain their supremacy in the market. Their products are factory warrantied for two years from date of sale.

  • 1 HEAT-TREATED ROD
  • 2 PROTECTION FROM DRILLING
  • 3 FALSE SLOTS
  • 4 SPECIAL LATCH
  • 5 ACTUATOR FOR VERTICAL RODS
  • 6 REPLACEABLE FRONT PLANK
  • 7 SPECIALLY WEAKENED COG
  • 8 ARMOUR PLATE
  • 9 CORROSION-RESISTANT COATING
  • 10 PROTECTIVE BUSHINGS
Mettem locks use a variety of protection methods to augment the quality of their offerings. Some of which we have listed below in their mortise lock product.

You may notice a resemblance to the well known Hooply range of products that we have written about often.

The wide range of products in their offerings indicate their desire and ability to provide second to none options in their local market. You can see the great range of available models in the source below.

We will show a few of their products below, to give you an idea of their fabulous and varying range.

Pictured here is the Mettem Leader product.
You can see that this is an 8 or 10 lever high-security mortise (skeleton type key) product.

Stainless steel bolts with long throws sit inside an all-steel housing that is very very strong, almost to the point of bullet resistant.

One of the bolts is made from extra-hardened steel to prevent saw cut attack.

The Mettem 318 is a combination 3-point locking solution that offers conventional Euro pin tumbler cylinder control, meaning you can use your high-security restricted and patent controlled keyway cylinders, that you use in your commercial master key systems.

The tabs top and bottom (of the casing) connect to rods inside your door frame to enable top and bottom reinforcement.

The Mettem Rim Lock range also varies in models. This particular unit is a rim lock with top and bottom rod connections for 3 point protection and extra security.

This model shows the inside keyhole, which would not comply with many jurisdictions in the western hemisphere where you are required to have a turnbutton for emergency panic escape.
This is also a 10 lever high-security virtually pick proof mortise (skeleton type key) cylinder.

The Mettem ZV EM 01.01 is a unique product that is hardwired (with battery backup). It is a mortise lock with no visible keyhole on the outside, making this unique solution virtually impossible to defeat with conventional lock breaking tools. It operates using remote controls.

The Mettem ZKP is a surface mounted RIM latch that is easily installed and uses a mechanical combination keypad.
1000 possible codes that can be changed easily on the fly.

Users can recerse the latch easily for outward or inward opening desire in the field.

The GSM control unit is a fabulous piece of technology that allows you to operate your lock or locks via a cellphone or PC (landline too).

Completely controllable via sms or pc, a manager can modify, set up new users, remove or block users easily on the fly.

This product operating with one of the high security invisible mortise locks will create extreme security for communal entry doors in apartment complexes and corporate environments where multiple different people require access across different times and locations. they can also be programmed to allow the remote control credentials to operate separate locking units in the same environment, meaning you only need one remote for multiple different locks.

Danny was pleasure to meet and was very knowledgable. He explained several lock replacement options but I decided none of them were a good fit for a storm door, however, I did replace a lock on my entry door with a type of lock I had never seen before. I would highly recommend this company.
Patricia J (Bridgeton, MO) March 2014
They were prompt and showed up when he said he would show up. He knew his stuff. The owner spent a longtime with me on the phone helping diagnosis the problem. He was on-time, friendly and helped resolve my issue. I will definitely use him again!

Chris C (Lake St Louis, MO) July 2013

I had a very pleasant experience with Master Key Systems. They came out, did the job (which took longer than expected) and they did not change the price they quoted me. Now, I am not certain that it was a great value for the money because I don't have a comparison, but they did what they said, when they said, for the price they said. Enough said!!!

Antonio B (Saint Louis, Missouri) March 2013

Professional.. Upfront about charges. Fixed the sticky door within 20 minutes. I will recommend Master Key for exterior door issues.
Muthu R (Ballwin, MO) July 2012

Danny was a master craftsman, knowledgable and professional. I will be calling on him again in the future as well as passing on his services to friends and family.

Marsha L (Saint Louis, MO) July 2012

Danny was excellent! I called him on a Monday to fix a sliding glass door. He happened to have the exact part we needed (and it was not an easy find - we had looked everywhere) and he came over Tuesday evening. He stayed until 8:00 until the job was done, and cleaned up afterwards. He was courteous, professional, and efficient! I could not be happier!

Rachel P Maryland Heights, MO (July 2012)

He did an excellent job. Got there on time and quickly solved the issue. Was very pleasant and explained the situation and how to keep the door from sticking in the future. Would definitely use Master Key LLC again!

Neil F. (Saint Louis, MO) April 2012

Danny was very friendly and knowledgeable, although his apprentice seemed to do most of the work, Danny kept an eye on him to make sure it was done right. He had very reasonable pricing for re-keying.
Greg D (St Louis, MO) October 2011

He was extrememly fabulous and helpful and did a wonderful job. He was very professional.
Shannon M. (Arnold, MO) October 2011

Growing up spending so much of my time in Italy, the uniqueness of the Nova Classico left quite an impression on me. To be able to have and enjoy them in my own home here in the states is a nostalgic indulgence I'm enjoying beyond words. Thank you Danny for coordinating this transaction.

Joseph M (Chicago, IL) September 2011

great job. hired on the spot and he did job right then at great price

Ron B (Arnold, MO) July 2011

I searched the internet and found your services. I received three phone calls within several days. A service call was scheduled. Two gentlemen arrived promptly, analyzed the problem and fixed it.
James & Florenc M Saint Louis, MO July 2011

The repairman was on time and did an excellent job of fixing a very stubborn door lock. He was persistent and cleaned up the work area afterwards. I would use this service again.

Brenda F (Saint Peters, MO) June 2011

Danny at Master Key Systems has succeeded in making the purchasing of our Meroni door locks, from Italy, an absolute breeze. Even though I live in Australia with a 16hr time difference and was ordering door knobs from Italy that weren't in stock, the whole process was faultless. Danny was prompt and efficient with all his emails and made sure we had covered every possible variable so that the product I received was exactly as required. I would have no hesitation in recommending Danny for your next purchase.
Patrick Carr (Canberra, Australia)

Your product really helped because I needed to secure a nurse's station adjacent to a waiting room and needed a pocket door. Unfortunately, no real options were available to lock a pocket door effectively that would keep me compliant with HIPAA and secure an area that stores medical supplies. This was vitally important as this particular waiting room was for "waiting detox patients". Thank you very much.
Randall R The Fritz Clinic (Birmingham, Al) March 2011

Danny was very polite and knew what the problem was and how to fix it. He also gave me some information about other issues that could arise with my door and locks. Will hire again if I ever need that type of work done.
Jason M Imperial, MO March 2011

I had an exterior basement door that dragged when opening and closing. The hinges were not fitting properly and the door frame had shifted, probably due to the age of the house. The screwswould not go far enough into the wall without hitting stone...even using a special drill bit. Dan worked a long time drilling and sanding to shore up the door as best as possible. I know it will never be perfect. He could have easily sold me a new door and the same issue would happen. He was honest, thorough, and did an excellent job without charging me a fortune. I'm satisfied with the door now. If you want an honest, experienced man, Then Dan is the man

Roger M Saint Louis, MO March 2011

I purchased the Cowdroy P697 Pocket door lock with key over the internet. I emailed questions before my purchase and was provided with the answers quickly by return email. The purchase was quick and easy and the lock was shipped immediatly. Installation is quick and easy. But you do need to convert millimeters to inches (use the internet) in the installation instructions. And the lock looks great and works great. I will do business with them again. THANK YOU

Ed D (February, 2011)
